Yes they will, when it stops making them money.
This makes a lot of sense to me.
Iām not a Career Mode kinda guy, I tried it a bit just to see what it was like (got PPL in the 172). Not my cup of tea, Iām into Free Flight and also like Landing Challenges.
For me, itās a HUGE disappointment that missions are only available in Career Mode. Banner and AG being the two I anticipated the most. Iām hoping they will change their policy to allow us access to all features without forcing Career Mode. Or, hoping someone will figure out a way around it and post it on Flightsim.to.
I think itās ridiculous for them to have āroped that offā. I saw that featured in the preview trailers, bought the product thinking I would try those āactivitiesā as soon as I launched the Sim for the first time. I think it would be awesome to add those Missions to Activities and Challenge League.
career mode is very disappointing. After 1 months since the release, i stopped playing career mode beucase itās so boring and the missions are so repetitive. I donāt see this mode as realistic
I bought msfs2024 (Steam) a week after it was launched. Iād read and drank the Kool Aid that Asobo and the usual YouTubers saying that performance would be better thanks to multi-threading and that there would be more optimization for PCVR. For me, with a i913900k/rtx4090/32Gb 6400ram, msfs2020 still works much better with PCVR. Pretty disappointing imho.
Actually, I have very few complaints with msfs in VR. My only minor one is that the startup takes twice as long to load (with fast ssd and 100mbps internet). This started happening when msfs2024 was launched. Maybe local msfs2020 servers are being redirected to msfs2024, who knows?
I uninstalled msfs2024 a couple of weeks ago and am back to msfs2020. Maybe when more bugs get squashed and there is a workable marketplace Iāll reinstall it again. I hope this doesnāt take too long, lol!
It all a gradual decline. If the sim starts to gradually decline in revenue they will make changes that the simmers are asking for. Once it has gone on too long, then it will be stopped. You said it yourself, āwhen it stops making them moneyā. The money wonāt stop right away in a day, rather it will take a bit of time before it comes to that conclusion
Iām still flying in 2020. I own 2024, and I am struggling to set up my Velocity One flight stick. Iām a little frustrated. I wrestle with it for a while and then I go back to 2020. In 2020 the stick had a workable basic setup that I could modify to what I wanted. In 2024 it mostly doesnāt work, and I donāt have the patience to try to fix it. I know, thatās not Asoboās problem but hey, you asked whoās still rockin ā 2020. I wonāt get into what I think of the UI. I should have waited until I saw more comments on here saying āhow good 2024 is getting.ā
2024 is coming along and although I still need to use 2020 for one of my 3 (payware) GA planes, I use 2024 for the other two. No career mode, just free flight with FSEconomy. Generally quite happy with 2024 despite some things that need fixing. The planes fly better and ground handling is better. I sympathize with those who are struggling. Itās a lot. Hang in there and hopefully it will all get better sooner rather than later.
I hadnāt spotted that. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully itās on their bug fix list - along with everything elseā¦
Maybe itās just super CPU intensive airports that perform better? Iāll try at a few others too.
For me, long-haul flights with large jets are almost painfully boring. Because what happens there? The occasional handover, take-off and landing. But nothing happens for several hours in between. The scenery, the graphics donāt matter up there either.
Why should I do that? The autopilot flies the machine automatically, the PC runs for hours. I could watch TV or play something else in that time.
Thatās why I only use small airplanes and helicopters, exclusively in VR.
With an EC125 or a Bell Jetranger flying low at top speed through the street canyons of metropolises like Nice or Rome, with a Beach Baron or an Extra 300s in the Grand Canion, with a military jet flying close to the ground around mountain edges and cliffs overhead and on its side, place-to-place flights in bad weather between oil platforms with a helicopter, thatās action, thatās interesting, challenging, you have to have perfect control of your aircraft otherwise it wonāt work.
The thrill of sitting in front of the monitor for hours waiting for ATC to request a handover is something I can never understand. The actual answer to the above question: everything I have listed here works perfectly. I honestly canāt find any reason to use the 2020. CTDs are rare for me. Graphics are better. Performance is a little weaker but ok. Therefore definitely: only 2024!
I try sometimes 2024, but after doing it for a pair of week to feed my curiosity, I did a flight with 2020 and it looked like a better and newer FS (this I think is the proof they did all wrong), with better UI and graphic. I think 2024 has better flying dynamics, planner and great potentialities, but looks like they did a car that could run very fast, but they use very poor gas, so the result is that the car is slower than a slow one. I canāt fly an FS that has this graphic quality. I use Xbox X (witch is Microsoft, closed system and they saw is the most used hardware with MSFS) with only MSFS 2020 and 2024 installed, a very fast 1Gb/s fibre (test result is 0,9 Gb/s) and the router is connected to Xbox with LAN cable. I attach a screenshot made with FS2024, having this ships quality itās a shame.
I think Iāve found the reason that 2020 performed slower than 2024 for me⦠FSTL! I removed that from 2020 and it now performs better than 2024 at EGLL.
You could make your own, being simple, missions by devising a free flight but one that sets yourself a number of targets to achieve. Not the same, but can still be as challenging as you want. Like taking off from Heathrow landing in Bristol but as challenge overflying Stonehenge on the way. For example. Just an idea.
The boat traffic is surprisingly bad. I was at Miami and there was one super gigantic blurry purple tanker that kept appearing and disappearing. Nearby were two old Clipper ships and in a marina area were a number of tiny little super tankers which I am very sure are never that small in real life.
To me, its these kinds of things they need to say āyes, that is broken and we are currently working on that specific itemā. But I am pretty sure they are off working on making new stuff that will just compound the bugs while maintaining radio silence.
Thank you for the suggestion, I appreciate it.
The type of mission Iām looking for is locked behind Career Mode. For example, picking up a banner, flying the route, return to airstrip and drop the banner. Performance is measured and reported for each attempt.
Or, Crop Dusting in an AG plane, spraying each pass, monitor progress on the EFB, fly as efficiently as possible and get āgradedā at the end of the activity. Hereās an example of it (from a YouTuber I like a lot, Cow Town). This is only available by progressing through the Career levels):
Thatās what I was writing about.
Real-world fast jet pilot here (23 yrs). Dabbled in 24 (VR) for a few days and it was abysmal. Still enjoying 2020.
gotcha ![]()
Still flying 2020 BUT lately specially at weekends and evenings I am getting the ālost connection, check your internet connectionā error. Then after a bit it reconnects.
Safe to say as so many have experienced there is nothing wrong with my internet connection.
Fibre download speed 942 Mbps and upload 113 Mbps.
Located in UK.
If this is due to added streaming traffic from 2024 then I am NOT pleased about that, putting it mildly !!
I think the point also needs to be made that they said in order to improve things they would have to do a major rewrite as there was too much FSX legacy code that was holding back development. THIS in itself should have been a red flag as this has no doubt would be a major effort in itself, rewriting the basic flying dynamics etc.
but they could have kept the controls and bindings the same. Afterall the FUNCTIONS didnt change but the code how it was written had to.
It should have been a multi step process.
OK, I can see that they would have had a problem charging for it but the basic rewritten SIM could have been free and then all the other stuff add-ons you could buy.
Still we are where we are and I admit in the past I have made similar mistakes when releasing software. But I expected MS to be more professional.
No good crying over spilled milk. But it seems to me that they have now created a lot of work for themselves under severe time pressure. It could have been avoided.
Lesson for the future.
