I’ve built a fairly powerful FS2020 rig comprising of an AMD 9 series 3900 processor and Palit 3080 GPU, both water cooled.
Incidentally watercooling adds only around 140mhz to the GPU.
Flying at height is a dream with 50fps with mostly Ultra settings, but get down to ground level in built up areas is another matter. Landing at Tokyo reduces FPS to under 30. The diagnostics suggest the CPU is the bottleneck in this regard.
We know FS2020 doesn’t make much use of multi threading suggesting a CPU with high single core clock speeds is the way to go, but I don’t quite understand the vram requirements. I assume the CPU is handing off objects to the GPU to display thus the amount of objects in the scernery determines both CPU and VRAM needs.I haven’t mentioned ATC or multi player or indeed weather but those clearly affect performance too.
On that basis currently A combination of an intel CPU and a 3090 seems the way to go. Enter AMDs new GPU and mention of better interfacing between cpu and gpu via some special coding.
This would suggest an AMD processor and a AMD GPU with plenty of VRAM will provide the ultimate FS2020 performance once AMD sorts out deliveries.
Roll on January. Meantime anyone in the UK want a water cooled 3080?
