How the upgrade process will look like for 2020 users?

Hi.

Meanwhile as a huge Fan i am willing to buy 2024.

But i wonder how will The Upgrade process Look for Users Like me?

Do i have to uninstall 2020 and Install and Download 2024 + all addons and 3rd Party + WUpdates? This is a mess and Takes days…

I hope there will be an upgrade Options for 2020 users that they dont need to Install everything new from Scratch.

Why? This is Not a new full price version of the Sim.

Quoted from the official release statement: “Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone simulator and the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator that launched in 2020”

But it’s going to be a $20 purchase. Seriously laughing so hard right now.

The language is uncalled for IMO. I don’t think it’s delusional at all. I agree with @Jab0m, from a technical standpoint, this isn’t a brand new product written from the ground up. This isn’t the MSFS 2020 to FSX comparison. This is more like what FS2004 was to FS2002. It’s a fairly sized but still too small to be called a brand new game, incremental update.

The fact that they’ve opted to call it a brand new game, does not make it so. This could have just as easily been paid DLC based on what we’ve seen so far. The engine, mechanics, graphics and other systems appear to be virtually the exact same. So I don’t see how that would justify the full price we paid for 2020. I’m not paying another £110. No way.

If you also take into account that all the MS Trailers are always unrealisticly polished and have always perfect lightning and framerates… I didnt even saw that The graphics were that much better than what WE have now in 2020.

You paid premium for the last game. That wont get you a discount for the new game. They are adamant that this is a new game, a sequel - that wording is to make it clear on their end that they’re selling it as a new game. It’d be great if current users got like $10 off or something, but realistically that’s not happening. It’ll be $70 for standard and $140 for premium deluxe based on current gaming prices.

As for as the process to change - I’m as curious as you are, but because it’s a new game, I have a feeling we’re going to have to reinstall things from scratch. The entire sim, all of our add-ons and world updates, even redo all of our key bindings, potentially. Sounds like a nightmare

Haha exactly and that is giving me also nightmares… alone the thought to do that. My 2020 Installation Folder is 600 GB… omg

The money to spent on this is a whole smaller problem.

True, especially when you look at the aircraft alone that we’re getting for that money. That alone will be worth it. But on top of that we get career missions, not my personal cup of tea but still cool - an ultimately a step forward for the sim and maybe even a longer support window. It’s a huge win.

Yeah maybe you are right.

I also hope that this will be pure DX12 and that then limiting mainthread problem is gone with the new engine. You noticed how few updates we got this year? I cant even remember when the last SU was and WU are also becoming rare things … now we know why…
