Sounds like a good instructor; however, after a few thousand hours of flying one can become acclimated to the “leans” as I’ve heard AF pilots call it. Hand flying in a cloud keeping your head straight up will also trigger the leans, it’s just part of flying. Reminds me of a joke that Taylor (if I recall correctly) shared in his book “Instrument Flying.” Everyone knows cats always land on their feet so the cat must always know which way is up or down. Take a cat with you in the cockpit when instrument flying and fly using this “cat horizon.”
