How to do a total deletion of the Sim and download it again from Steam

Hi @Hester40MT and fellows

I have this Sim since May 2021. Initially it was working correctly but since more than 6 months ago all propeller aircraft (and most especially the Extra 330 LT) presents a series of anomalies such as:

engine stalls, accelerates and decelerates irregularly; the fuel mixture setting goes back to 45,6% systematically (with the consequent loss of power = 2.000 RPM), etc, etc.

Naturally, I did two uninstallations and their corresponding reinstallations, but with totally negative results.

I have sent to Zendesk a report of these failures, I got their answer but they ask me to make a series of tests that are too complicated for me, because of my little knowledge of computer science, so I want a more radical solution and then have on my PC the Sim in its pure state, and without the current problems.

I wish to do this: a total deletion of the Sim and then re-download it from Steam (my provider). I ask:

    • Is it possible to do this total deletion from Steam and then download it again?
    • If yes, What precautions should I take and how to do it ?.

3).- If I can’t delete it totally from Steam and I do it with another procedure, will Steam put me any inconvenience to download it again?

I am waiting for your answers.

Kind regards: Delfin

A reinstallation won’t fix your issue.

I hope this is some help.
The issue with a reinstall is that all your settings are kept “in the Cloud”.

Therefore, when you reinstall the sim, your settings are restored.
So if you have settings that are causing it, they will return.
This may help to delete the settings. I haven’t tried it personally, but it is supposed to work
Go to your Steam account and log in.
Right-click the game and select “Delete Local Content…” A confirmation box will pop up. Click the “Delete” button.

Once you have done that, and you want to delete the sim and reinstall a fresh copy of it follow the directions in this link.

Hi @ TheSevenflyer

I think your reply will be of great help to me; for the moment, it already has been: I have verified the integrity of the Sim files, and everything is correct.

However after logging into Steam, I have difficulties to locate the correct path to find and “delete LocalContent”. Could you please accompany the text with some images to see the path to follow. I find in several places - “Microsoft Fliight Simulator” but when I click on it, I do not find what I have to delete. You know: as simple as it is (and it is), the first time, it is always difficult.

Another detail : Before sending this thread to the Forum, I uninstalled and reinstalled this Sim according to this sequence:

Click on msfs —> Manage → Uninstall . and Re-install. I noticed that the size of the “package” folder before uninstallation was= 134 GB. And after uninstalling, it had exactly the same size= 134 GB. How is this possible?

This is the directory tree before uninstalling:

C:\Usesr\Delfin\AppData\Microsft Flight Simulator\Package\Official\Steam.

And this one (exactly the same as the previous one), after uninstalling:

C:\Usesr\Delfin\AppData\Microsft Flight Simulator\Package\Official\Steam.

And the size of the Stean folder continues with= 134 G.Bytes. I guess this is not correct

The screenshot after uninstallation is this:

Of course, these are actions I have undertaken before using the link you send me to “repair, remove and perform a clean install …”.

And before I undertake the total deletion of the Sim and the new total download and reinstall, I want to delete “delete LocalContent” from Steam and I haven’t done it yet.

Thank you very much for your correct and comprehensive answer to my topic.

Kind regards: Delfin

I don’t use Steam for MSFS, but I have found a link with a good explanation.

Hi @ TheSevenflyer
In your initial description in this topic, you describe in detail the steps to take in Steam to delete those files, at least indicate the path to follow to “Delete Local Content”; if possible, insert a picture. By doing so, you will give me valuable help.
The link you send me in your second reply, is too complicated for something as elementary as deleting local content.
Kind regards: Delfin

I don’t have steam, that is the best I can do.

Hi @ TheSevenflyer
NO, it is not the best you can do. Given your very precise description, it is evident that you know those steps (and I need those steps). Why don’t you finish this short work as well as you started it.
Regards: Delfin

Bear in mind, I don’t work for this forum.
I am a simmer, like you.
I just like to try to help folks like you who have problems and post here in the public forum.
There are no MSFS paid employees who provide support here.

I got those steps by doing a google search.
You could do that yourself.
I am sorry they were no help.

Now, having said that, I did one last google search for you.
Since you found the last link a bit difficult to follow, this seems like it might be better.

If I had MSFS through Steam, I would go through the process myself and then be able to advise you.
Since I do not, there isn’t much else I can do, other than the above link.
If you can’t follow the steps in this, there really isn’t any more I can do.

Good luck.

Running Verify File Integrity in Steam will always cause a complete reinstall. It is of no use for MSFS unless you simply want to completely reinstall MSFS without uninstalling first.

For the majority of Steam users let me repeat,
STAY AWAY FROM VERIFY FILES INTEGRITY IN STEAM! IT WILL CAUSE A COMPLETE REINSTALL ON NEXT MSFS LAUNCH.

Hi @PhantomStreak

How can it cause a complete reinstallation if MSFS has not been previously uninstalled?

I beg you to explain this to me, unless doing an integrity check of…, necessarily implies; 1st) automatic uninstallation and, 2nd) then (also automatically) reinstallation of the Sim. which makes no sense at all.

Tell me: is Steam your MSFS 2020 provider ?
Regards: Delfin

That is what it does.
When folks on the forum here try to explain things to you, if you don’t like their answers,
you can check yourself.
They don’t just make up their reply, and PhantomStreak did not code the simulator.

Do a search from the search icon (Magnifying Glass) at the top of the page.
Type in Verify Steam Files

I will also tell you:
If you click verify, it uninstalls the sim and reinstalls the sim.

If you don’t believe the answer you get, watch your installations files. They will disappear when you click on Verify Files.
That will verify it for you. :slightly_smiling_face:

It deletes core files and then on next launch, MSFS treats it as a new installation. You can question it all you want, but you’ve been warned. Don’t believe me, then verify file integrity and sit through a complete reinstall on next launch. I’m not stopping you.

Hi @ TheSevenflyer, @PhantmStreak

Do you realize how you can do better.

Too often on the Forum, such brief replies are given, that say absolutely nothing.

In your second contation, you have expounded very correctly, even giving me another very useful link. Anyway (and after 6 months of nightmare with this Sim), I think I have finally fixed it. I think it was a problem of assigning functions to two buttons that I didn’t know about. I have to fly it for more days, and I will see the results.

Thanks for your successive help, and I say the same to PhantomStreak.

To both of you, kind regards: Delfin

You are certainly welcome.
I am glad to hear you are “back in the air”.
Good flights.

Glad you got your issue sorted.
