How do I get ATC to offer me different runway take-off options? I see the option provide at times, other times I don’t (at the same airports). Am I missing some trick?
I suspect that at least some of the time ATC will not give you the option to T.O. or Land if the tail wind might be too strong.
I’ve approached runways doing VFR GA flights knowing the prevailing winds at particular airports, only to find out that ATC is sending me to the other end or a different runway, and when I get the weather and in particular the wind information it all make sense. A couple good examples I see are Honolulu (PHNL), Maui (PHOG), and Kona (PHKO). I’m just not sure if this is the case every time.
