How to solve stuttering

Hi there,

I didn’t play MSFS2024 a while, but after some months I finally did find the time to fly. Last week I noticed that my performance is decreased. Usually, I could play around 60-70 FPS. Now thats about 30-40 FPS, but what bothers me most is the constant stuttering. It’s the worst shortly after starting a flight, but also in-flight and while moving the camera stutters are visible.

I tried multiple things suggested by other threads, which includeP:

  • Update Windows, Nvidia drivers
  • Updated my BIOS and chipset driver
  • Checked if XMP profiles are active
  • Checked to see if game mode was off, all overlays (Steam, Nvidia, Discord) are disabled and Nvidia powersettings are set to max performance.

But it didn’t help. I’m not that experienced with troubleshooting poor performance, but I was wondering if someone knows in which direction to look based on the kind of stuttering. I attached a video trying to demonstrate. Could it be sim-update related, driver related or is it a bug?

Any tips would help, thanks!

Years ago while flying 2020, I would have 1/4 second stuttering, the sim would pause for a micro second (my term, lol) then continue. I recorded it, posted it on another FS forum, people were just as perplexed as I was.

I did the steps you outlined to no avail. Even reloaded the sim (ugh!!!_, did not work. The ONLY thing that worked for me, reinstalled Windows 10 (at the time was the version).

Reinstalled the sim, not a single problem.

Bit drastic, but it worked for me at least. Your mileage may vary

Have you checked the performance graph in DevMode? First thing to check is whether stutters are caused by CPU or GPU.

It’s CPU (mainthread) limited

Have you tried reducing settings that hit the CPU most? Lods (particularly TLODS) is a good place to start
