I still think MSFS2020 could be brilliant but today after the latest update still nothing seems to be better. Still having problems with no stick control at low speed with the 787 and 320 making round out impossible unless approaching at around 150 to 160 kts or more. Too unrealistic to waste time on.
Some days the autopilot works perfectly others it is determined to try and kill you. If real world flying was like that aviation would disappear overnight.
What have they done with the logbook?? It was terrible and now it is beyond a joke. Surely it cannot be difficult to produce a simple logbook as in FSX of P3D which records accurately and allows editing. MSFS2020 has taken a simple logbook and made it utterly useless.
As for ATC, I really had high hopes that it would be good, in other sims it is dreadful but here, Microsoft/ Asobo have excelled…….and made it so bad that there are times (many) that I could throw the whole computer out of the window!!! Doing circuits is impossible with mindless ATC repetitive rubbish (it is very hard to keep this polite) distracting and driving me crazy.
With a lifelong involvement and love of aviation, flightsim keeps me flying long after I had to stop with health problems. I fly mainly P3Dv5 and some X Plane 11. Whilst the scenery in both cannot come close to MSFS2020 at least if I plan a flight, short or long, the sim will perform as it should. Surely that is more important that fantastic eye candy?
Long waits for big patches is frustrating. It would be nice if they fixed one thing at a time and released that update, then work on the next. For me, and I know we all have different problems, the initial release was better and more reliable than what I have now. It that really what they call progress?
Been reading many of the posts for awhile. It is pretty amazing the impatience many people have.
Yes, this sim is buggy, it’s also the first releas. Time to just acknowledge that and wait. Things will get fixed over time. And if that is unacceptable then its time to shut it down and go fly your other sims until MSFS2020 becomes more stable. This sim and its planes, especially the more advanced airliners, are not going to be at the same level as other simulators which have been in development for decades. Eventually they will be but that time is not now. Did you actually expect you were going to fire this sim up, everything will be perfect and you’d have airlines models on par with PMDG? Get real.
Everyone has different ideas on how this should be done, what should be fixed first, or what is acceptable or unacceptable to them. That’s nice however I am sure they are fixing things in a way that works for them and as fast as they can. If that doesn’t work for you then, like I said, maybe it’s time to just shut it down and come back in a few months.
Hi. I do agree with much of what you say. My argument is that Microsoft and Asobo have released a product that is still to all purposes still in beta. If it had been released as a “work in progress” and asked for the public to assist in testing I would have happily paid my money and been satisfied that problems would be resolved eventually. I do still have faith in the simulator but for many, including me, while the future may be bright currently things are not good. I have never expected “PMDG” quality in the stock aircraft, I am happy to pay for the quality aircraft I want to fly in the sim but I do expect a reasonably reliable basic level of usability. That I do not see at this time.
I firmly believe that the sim release was rushed on a sea of hype and a few more months development would have prevented many very unhappy and angry customers. My post is critical of the sim but I hope conveyed my hope that eventually it will shine above all the rest. It has amazing potential but they MUST get the basics right first.
I see the main issues as the patches seam to be working the opposite what did work now is broken. Just one example the logbook worked great at first broken on first patch when using developer mode, completely broken on second patch (even the workarounds are hit or miss)
MSFS2020 is the most unreliable software I have encountered in many years.
Sometimes it works ok for me, most of the time I’m trying to find out why my Deluxe Premium aircraft have gone missing, etc. Terrible installer - just shameful.
If/when it works reliably, it’ll be great. Until then it’s just been a big time waster here - even after spending thousands of dollars on new hardware specifically to run it.

Sadly, I feel this falls on deaf ears… I agree, OP… 100%.
You’ll get told you’re just a hater… or we’re impatient… or blah blah blah. It’s been 3 months and the game hasn’t improved since launch, in my opinion… it’s reverted.
Giving them a couple more months but if it’s not a decent improvement (and I don’t care about Japan world update, sure that was great, but I’m talking about critical bug fixes) then I’ll play something else.
I don’t know. As long as I don’t open Dev mode at all during the flight, the log book has never failed me.
I routinely fly the DA40 and DA62 for 1-3 hour flights with online live traffic and multiplayer and I get 50-60fps at 4K with a 3080 and a 3700x with 32GB.
I get the occasional crash, but overall I’m having a really great time in the sim.
ATC isn’t terrible, but by no means is it perfect, however I consider it much lower priority than stabilizing some airplanes. What I will admit to is that I don’t fly the big planes and so I’m not experiencing the ■■■■everyone else is and it’s giving me a completely different experience. Maybe fly a smaller plane for a minute.
Ok its still in beta, welcome to the software industry. Personally I have been having a blast flying this sim. Yeah, it has its problems but its still has a lot going for it and its just going to keep getting better. This is literally the first sim I can truly fly VFR in, its pretty amazing. Put the airliners and jets in the hanger and take the 172 out for a spin, it works pretty good. No need for autopilot, ATC, FMS’s, just trim the plane up and fly using VOR’s and visual references. Try doing a Class B VFR special flight rules flight through Los Angeles. All of this works just fine and is quite fun. Yeah, it may not be what you ultimately want to fly or do in this sim but it will get there and in the interim its pretty amazing.
It’s been three months and they don’t have the sim perfected! Come on man, seriously? If that is your standard then you really need to just shut it down and come back later.
I do not routinely fly heavy. They are very different and interesting but my interest is in the business jets. But the two here have several problems both in particular with fuel consumption being stupidly high. That is problem that should be easy to rectify I would have thought. Also, flying the Baron is good when it’s systems work. I did have a great trip in it Bush trip style from Rome to Naples the other day. No problems just fun. Manual hands on flying all the way. Can’t do that in a Dreamliner…
One day the problems will be fixed and longer system flights will be possible. And there will be a choice of quality aircraft to add to an amazing sim.
Agreed. Microsoft probably told Asobo to get it out the door and fix it later. There are / were just too many issues that should have been reported by testers and corrected long before release.
Also, user interface shortcomings like no key toggle for name plates and the taxi ribbon. Who wants to break immersion by going into options to toggle these?!?! Who wants to wait until the useless Press Any Key screen before going to grab a coffee or hit the bathroom?
There are other design choices I could mention but you all get the idea. It’s these inexplicable “features,” that give me concern that they’ll ever get the sim to a superb state.
All that said, I have no interest in flying the heavy airliners. A Dash 8 is probably as big as I’ll go. The Cessna 172 and 208b work well for me so… There’s no way I can go back to P3D. I just hope Asobo get their act together and do for this sim what Hello Games did for the fiasco that was No Mans Sky. That company redeemed itself and then some.
If this sim had been sold as Early Access - with a popup that warned the buyer - there’d be a lot less complaining going on. They could have even listed what works well - such as the awe inspiring fidelity of the scenery - and what doesn’t - such as the complex avionics of the heavy jets.
I just hope Asobo cares enough about its reputation to fix and improve things so much that all other sims are made redundant. (Sorry Lockheed Martin et al.)
Very apparent that they spent a lot of time on the earth and modeling it correctly, and forgot about the planes. I get that they expected third party developers to make the best planes, but their base aviation tech (Autopilot, Nav, IFR, etc) needs to work before other companies will invest their time in aircraft.
