HP Reverb G2 is here... (shipping in the U.S.)

I love virtual touring in FSX. I’m hoping the new sim will get to that point of freedom one day.
Driving to the airport…walking through the terminal…boarding the aircraft… flying to destination…driving a rental car through said destination.
The possibilities are endless!

Have you tried Dramamine? I have a g2 on order as well but also have the original Rift. I never get motion sick in real life but 30 mins in some vr games and I was blue in the face. I figured out that Dramamine and just playing through it helped my body get used to it in just a couple sessions… no more sickness.

Yes! Also Bonine is something that I’ve just found that maybe makes me less drowsy, but I need to try some more. I do need to take one of these when I fly commercial.
But I’m much more acclimated to VR than I used to be. Now I simply chew on a couple of ginger tablets and I’m usually good.

Okay, this is amazing…

So the Microsoft Mixed Reality Portal is… well… meh. But last night my son and I loaded the Steam VR environment and what a difference (not being a gamer, Steam is foreign to me). It has a much nicer interface, much more realistic environment, and loads and loads of applications available in this portal. No comparison, really.

We also managed to get Google Earth VR up and running. I was stunned. Totally blown away, even more than expected. Click - drag - click - drag, fly - fly - fly, click… Boom. Going from an overall view of the planet, to a zoomed in aerial view of a city, to a fly-around 3D landscape, to a 360 degree street view, was just that simple. Gave me everything I was looking for and then some. In one instance I clicked to go to street view and didn’t notice it was an actual address… and I was teleported inside a shop in Jackson, CA. It took a moment for the surrounding images to come into focus, but once they did… I could read the price tags on the items in the shop. I casually walked out of the shop and back to the street, and off I went. The detail was amazing, I could read the menu’s in the restaurant windows.

Just incredible. This VR investment is money very well spent.
I’m going to spend days during this lockdown, revisiting locations I’ve been to in the past, and going to places I’ve never seen before. Just incredible. Can’t wait to do it in my virtual aircraft.

Since I really only created this thread to announce that the G2 was finally shipping in the U.S., and it has branched out into everything from motion sickness to Google Earth, and now has very little to do with MSFS2020 anymore, I think I’ll step out and let it disappear into the archives.

Thanx everyone,
Jim-Sim

Hello, just something about VR sickness as only MY experience…
I started with the Rift only for flying in VR with IL2 Sturmovik (the best Vr Thrilling ever…specially online)
…at first i got sick…rolling, looping , diving but i got completely used to it !
i have spend now around 3500h in VR flying in IL2 , i can sit a whole night 2-6 h in dogfight without any sickness issue at all. The only issue i had is with my several “almost heart attack / near Death Experience” …struggling for air when flying home after a won dogfight beeing chased by 3 Yak`s at 15000 feet … and my wife saying …" one day i wake up and see you sitting Dead on your chair !"
I don´t play other games in VR only Xplane , Fsx and specially IL2 and cant wait for my G2 to come…
its a known issue, VR its not everyone for me i just can shou out a Warning … You can get “addicted” to it like i did (3500h in IL2 !) and for those who dont know what VR feels like…
well …its like trying to explain “surfing down a big wave or flying with a paraglider feels”…to someone who has never experienced it…
…here just a vid i did for youtube - IL2 STURMOVIK VR - "HIMMELFAHRTSKOMMANDO JU 52" fictional Adventure - YouTube

Received my G

Funny I ran into the same issue. I ended up just putting pressure in every direction until it worked.

Jim-Sim my advice to avoid motion sickness is just to take a dose of Dramamine about half an hour before you want to play and you’ll be good to go all day/night. I couldn’t use any motion software in VR other than where you are stationary and not moving forward/back/left/right until I took that and it helps you get used to the experience as well.

I also found another called Bonine. I think it may cause less drowsiness but I don’t have enough experience yet to really confirm.
Then migrate to ginger tablets once you get more used to it.

I like this. It would be even better if a few crew members are walking with me carrying our suitcases. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Guess what. I just received my G2 headset and it is not supporting AMD systems.

Werner Molders, one of the top german aces of WWII got sick all the time when he first started flying. But it was his dream and he eventually got over it. Even Chuck Yeager got sick when he first started flying.

The minimum specs table at HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset Specifications | HP® Customer Support would suggest that the Reverb G2 should work with AMD CPUs and GPUs, so you shouldn’t have an issue with a refund if it doesn’t.

And they sure are there now, in spades!

There is a problem with x570 chipset and USB connectivity. I was able to get it to work by using the dongle and my front usb 3 ports. You can also install a cheap usb pci card to get it working with AMD. Not perfect but will work until AMD releases a driver/bios fix.

I have an extra USB card mounted on my motherboard. That didn’t fix it for me.
