HP Reverb G2 standard or HP Reverb G2 Omnicept Edition

I want to take a plunge with VR and I dont know which one should I go for. So, should I go for G2 standard version or Omnicept Edition?

Only someone who has tried both can definitely answer that. Omnicept has eyetracking…dunno if that’s worth the price tag.

So apparently no one tried them both yet.
Someone with omnicept? Does eyetracking even work in MSFS?

I have tried both headsets, the Omnicept is just like the G2, slightly better construction IMO (materials) which also means a little heavier. AFAICT image quality is the same. AFAICT the tracking is the same. The Omnicept has additional sensors (eye tracking, face tracking) but they all require special support, which is typically only implemented for certain Enterprise applications. It’s definitely geared towards professional applications, ie companies that have specific software requiring the extra sensors.

The eye tracking for example, is not usable for interactions in MSFS. It is however usable for Foveated Rendering with the OpenXR Toolkit.

I personally don’t think the extra sensors on the Omnicept justify the higher price tag, considered that very few applications actually take advantage of them (and I’m not sure it will really change in the future).

Thank you very much for your answer and explanation. This helps a lot.

If you’re using Open XR Toolkit, which you definitely should, with the Omnicept, it will enable MSFS to use Foveated Rendering with eye tracking. This should give you a significant increase in performance.

This video explains it.

Only problem I see from this is that the sweet spot is not moving so no point in having better resolution by moving your eyes , you’ll lose the sharpness anyway. I say you should buy the regular G2 or wait for the G3.

But the openxr toolkit is a must and a marvelous game changer.

Happy VR flying !!

As @jeerouss is saying unfortunately the lenses of the G2 (including Omnicept) don’t provide the best clarify at the edges and the only sweet spot is the center, so even with Foveated rendering the results aren’t as good as for example a Varjo Aero.
