Huge performance increase

“I have no idea how you can play a flight simulator and not be affected by them.”

That’s easily answered. If you aren’t affected by these numerous issues you relate. For example there is more than one way to fly in this simulator.
By the way for me live weather seems to work fine. At least it faithfully reflects the actual weather over my head so I assume it basically works.
Be so kind not to speak for everybody else and assume that how you see and want to ‘play’ the simulator ( a contradiction in itself) is how everybody else sees and uses it.
There has been an undoubted performance improvement in SU5. Sorry if that doesn’t apply to you. Please raise some Zendesk tickets specifying your specific problems. That is the way forward.

The by far biggest outcry regarding the degraded graphics was over the aggressive culling that came with the pop-in issue. This will be fixed tomorrow by giving us a slider, where we can control the size of area around the plane (360 degrees) that will be cached. Pretty much all the other claims about lost graphical fidelity, save maybe for certain type of clouds, are - based on all the evidence I have seen here - stuff that you don’t even notice unless your focus is not on aviating but spotting issues.

Actually there are other PG cities where the resolution remains much clearer and the geometry defined (see the US and Japan for examples) so it may have to source data and conversion as well. The performance improvement has made flying over those a much smoother experience, compared to the past where the significant stutters and fps hits.

yeah, I fly sub 50mph at a few feet over rooftops, and to me, they look astounding close up.

I found my old workplace and the fire escape I used to take my smoke breaks on as well as the Police Sniper location near us they used to use when safeguarding the Queen mum. (ill not post it publicly for obvious reasons)

indeed I far prefer the scans to the handcrafted buildings and would prefer low res scans worldwide to the autogen.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.

I’d love even more fidelity but it’s more than good enough imho.

perhaps they had a different issue?

What setting did you run at before and what do you run now? If you fly mainly IFR below high/ultra you wouldn’t notice them. The team have acknowledged (bugs logged) issues with volumetric lighting, terrain and PG (the latter two were related to data streaming).

You’re only focusing on graphics but biggest fixes I’m hoping are included are some stability and control issues (trim, broken controller UI,etc) as well.

Sim has definitely been improved outside of the visual fidelity / graphics. Performance is MUCH better.

Sure wish they’d bring in raytracing and improve the lighting/exposure/color settings and we’ll be set!

I fly both VFR and IFR, in VFR I like to fly above the cities, I have a standard route I fly around Zürich (where I live) regurlarly, both 2D and VR. BUt also love cruising above Paris and London, as well as NY with the absolute breathtaking addon from Samscene.

In IFR I fly thus far almost exclusively a32nx, but have started to learn the 747 lately with the salty mod.

I used to have med-high settings before, after the SU5 I am able all set to ultra with excellent FPS, but can’t go 200% render scale or fiddle LODs in the cfg above 3, panning becomes unbearable. 2070s card, 1080p monitor.

Yes, and there has been since the last week a notification at the top of the forums where the inform us. The Bing data issue is the only real “PG broken” I can think of, but as they are currently working on it, I haven’t seen any issues with the PG since last week, I don’t think there really is a need to keep talking about it as an example of SU5 graphical degradation. Also because we have no knowledge of the streaming issues having something to do with the patch.
