Hypothetically, if they stopped supporting 2020 and or 2024

The only known example of the cancellation of an online version that one can draw an inference from, AFAIK, is Microsoft Flight:

  • Officially released on February 29, 2012.
  • Cancelled on July 25, 2012.
  • Closure of the in-game Microsoft Flight Xbox PC Marketplace on August 22, 2013.
  • Multiplayer servers were shut down on October 14, 2014.

But this past example is no guarantee of a similar outcome.

Crumbs, that was short lived.
If there is someone up there that looks kindly on us merry few, this sim must live for a very long time :folded_hands:

why are they insisting on streaming?
always online is very bad practice,
there are outages..
let us download 300GB or whatever to be able to play offline, like 2020..

Well, when the AI bubble inevitably bursts at some point, question is what companies will do to safe money. I doubt they will do something as extreme, but the chance is never zero I guess.

I think this discussion has been had dozens of times.

The quality of offline terrain is pretty terrible. The people complaining right now about blurry ground textures might actually explode.

You would also lose access to live weather, live traffic, ATC or at least Azure TTS voices.

You may as well just use X-Plane at that point.

there’s no X Plane on console, and I fly without atc and air traffic anyway. this could be an alternate option to play when internet or servers are down and you could still have it downloaded and be online to play with everything. having base game on SSD and only download some hi-res data would certainly improve performance too.
