I 7 12700k and RTX 4080 - useful constellation?

Just a question: at the moment I use an I7 12700k and a RTX 3080, in 4K. Monitor is ultrawide, driven with 85Hz.
With the Fenix I achieve about 28fps, limited by the mainthread. Now I wonder if using an RTX 4080, together with DX12 and frame genarator can improve fps and fluidness significant?

If you’re limited by CPU a diferent GPU won’t do much

I am running a 4080 on a i9 9900k CPU (did upgrade from a 2080ti). I use a 5120x1440 Ultrawide Monitor flanked by 2 Full HD Monitors. VR is running on a HP Reverb G2. On Dx12 with FG on the difference is phenomal. This avoids the CPU Bottleneck on my old CPU. I get more than 100fps on many GA Planes. The Fenix A320 und PMDG 737 run also butter smooth. The price of the card did not matter for me

Thanks both.
Puh, two different opinions. Bottlenecking by the CPU is clear for me, my hopes went in direction FG to make the CPU bottleneck smaller or even aviod it by taking more tasks by the GPU.

I would give it a try. FG is a real game changer. I was also skeptical if it works well on my old (2 year  ) rig. I did not want to replace my 700w PSU. So far no problems with my Asus TUF 4080. It his hard to tell about FPS due to the endless setting combinations. By intentien I did not push all settings to Ultra. To me this is pointless. But must settings are high or ultra. My Fenix A320 reaches easily around 70-80fps with FG on. In VR I did not measure FPS, but it feels very good and smooth.

Not a GPU upgrade alone, but enabling frame generation will instantly double the FPS for mainthread limited.

Yes, significantly. MSFS is actually the perfect game for frame generation, as it’s relatively low-paced compared to first-person shooters, and I find it difficult to notice the added AI frames. The only time I can notice artifacts is when panning quickly with the mouse or switching views. A small price to pay for doubling your performance.

What CPU do you have?

i9 9900k on a asus z390 motherboard.

Sorry, I should have seen that in your earlier post.
