I bit the bullet and just purchased FS24 Premium Deluxe (Steam).
My first thought was Will I escape being a member of the 97% club? I am pleased to say that the game installed flawlessly.
Would I join the queuing club? No. I launched a flight and was standing next to my aircraft (Cessna) in a very short time.
Will the graphics look poo? No, they were awesome.
Will I like my first flight? Yes. BUT!! ZOMG!! Who thought of making us have to do a external pre-flight checks of the aircraft IN FREE FLIGHT if we choose not to start on the runway? What a pain that is! I managed to clear most check points but two do not seem to clear. 1) The dipstick. I opened the clover and raised the dipstick and it showed all good, but the white/blue circle won’t change to green. 2) Same with the little cargo hold. Door opens but I can’t seem to clear that one. Please give us the option to deactivate the walk round checks.
Do I like the 2024 pre-set bindings? No! But to be fair it’s only because I am so used to the FS20 settings. I know I can set them to FS20 defaults, which I need to try. Though I have heard that the GS20 settings can limit certain actions in FS24.
I do need to go through my Logitech Yoke settings as they are not to my liking. Fortunately the Logitech yoke I have doesn’t have a lot of buttons and switches.
My first flight was starting at CJD3 (Birch Hills) just taking off to get a feel of the game. It did feel and look good, though the flight dynamics are a little different when compared to FS20. More realistic physics perhaps? That’ll take some getting used to, but it shouldn’t be that hard.
I did a circuit of the town and landed again (well, dumped the aircraft onto the ground).
That’s about as far as I have got into the game. I am sure it’ll have a few surprises in store for me.
I have now completed ten flights in FS24 and I am very pleased with how it runs.
Good smooth performance with FPS of 80-90 with Ultra settings over London (though admittedly have not landed at Heathrow yet, but have landed at London City). To be fair though I am running it on a 4090.
The flight dynamics are different it seems to FS20, more realistic perhaps. but then again I am not a real pilot. For example, I need to make a lot more minor adjustments with the yoke to keep the aircraft true (Cessna 172). I did have auto-rudder on but turned it off, which did improve handling a little.
No launching/server issues.
No CTD
But …
Some buildings and terrain around EGLC look like a nuclear wasteland with little hills where it should be flat.
Some aircraft behave oddly. The JMB VL-3 for example. The nose wheel is at a 90 degree angle and nothing I do seems to straighten it.
The Cessna 172 sometimes will run smoothly and straight down the runway during take off. Yet on my last flight as I was running down the runway for take-off the aircraft suddenly veered to the left dramatically.
Oh, and I thought FS24 was supposed to have real world liveries on its AI aircraft. I am not seeing that. Perhaps I misunderstood the claim.
But so far no major gripes. Very much enjoying it.
Yes, I was indeed on live weather (this flight and the one before it - the rest were on clear skies). I do not believe there were any gusts in my last flight, but you are right it was more than likely live weather that caused it.
