Right. Anyway, flying IFR in the sim with no appropriate rating is more of a game than the career mode.
Of course the in sim ratings would have to be well made.

I do not complain. However, thinking about what I like and what I do not like in MSFS2024 comparing with 2020…
I like - Charts, better visuals, now we have what to do - gaming content.
I do not like all the rest
The biggest problem for me is thst each flight has multiple instances where the controls stop responding. I have to stop and resume several times to get the controls working again.
My main reason for going back to MSFS 2020 is the Flying Iron aircraft which haven’t been converted yet.
Right. So how weak is the foundation when I haven’t had a single crash to desktop or any other crash for that matter for the last two week while being on holiday and simming every day? I have become totally hooked on the career mode and discovered VR once again that is working so much better that it ever was in 2020.
I don’t believe that at all. Most rational people would agree that it’s better to release when it’s done to the best of their ability.
“To those who also complain because it has been brought to the X-Box… On the one hand, it benefits those of us who do not have totally top-notch hardware and on the other hand, it is a showcase for new users, who perhaps otherwise would never approach this world and who in the future may be true simmers or pilots in real life”
Are Xbox users not real simmers?
I’m on Xbox and I fly:
GA
Military fast/heavy jets
Airliners
Ski & floats
Helicopters
Both VFR and IFR flight rules with Simbrief and Navigraph subscriptions. I always go cold and dark with full manual start up.
Velocity Yoke with TM Hotas and pedals.
I also fly C172 in real life and as far as I am concerned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with MSFS on Xbox. It’s the cheapest option for newbie simmers and future IRL pilots
Actually the Career Mode is gaming and that is where the vast majority of bugs and fatal flaws are. Not to mention that many things are not explained, like passive income. If we have to figure out how everything works, then the developers haven’t done their job
Yes of course but in my experience most flight simmers are not rational. ![]()
I’ve only been using it a few days and have found a bunch of problems that are so basic they shouldn’t even exist.
I’ve been watching the posts the past month and didn’t think it could be that bad. I’ve learnt otherwise.
Of course they are. Just as much as anyone else who uses the FS20-FS24 game is.
The problem with having a game that has the same experience on PC as on console is this:
Consoles are refreshed in terms of hardware so infrequently, the games that run on them are optimized by years old standards. In other words, if MS released some great new feature to FS24 that made it VR awesome with other mind blowing features, as a PC user, I can buy better GPU’s or faster RAM or even build a new PC. But a console user does not have that option. An XboxX user is locked into 3 year old hardware.
So, that is the reason that ensuring it all plays the same on the console & PC, holds back the PC side of development.
This should be a total non-issue for modern developers.
Between source code management systems such as GIT (yes, I’m that old) and compiler macros, multi-platform support should be no problem.
After all, the X-plane developers support multiple platforms and they don’t have MS behind them.
X-Plane is also a buggy mess whenever a new version drops.
But with Xplane you are not forced to accept the update as you have to with MSFS.
You can stay on the Xplane version which is best for you.
In my example, when brand new, the older version to fall back to would be the prequel.
I bought Xplane 12 direct from Laminar.
The fact is that I can have as many different versions as I want on my PC. With 16tb of internal M2 space that gives me a lot of options with that sim. With MSFS if there is a bad update which cripples the sim (as there was last Xmas for a lot of us when Asobo went off on their Xmas jollies and only fixed it months later) you have only two options: either don’t play the sim or live with the bad update they delivered.
Let’s not argue from the position that an update to MSFS will always break it.
I get what you are saying about forced updates. Nature of the beast when everyone shares the world like in MSFS. But impossible to roll back.
Still, you are painting an unrealistic worst case scenario.
I cannot remember any SU for FS20 that did not break something. Please share if you can.
Oh, we are moving the goalposts now? From breaking the sim with every patch to regressing something?
Vastly different things.
This is feeling less and less like a good faith discussion and more and more like an exaggerated gripe session.
Anyway, now at least we can fall back to 2020.
When 2020 was new, falling back to FSX or X-Plane
Was like switching languages.
I am not arguing nor am I saying that every MSFS update breaks the sim. I try to be fair ![]()
It is a fact though that there have been quite a few updates which have detrimentally affected the sim over the years and we have been forced to live with the bad updates for a longish period until the issues were eventually sorted. I have been with FS20 just a few days after it launched and I have a long memory ![]()
Asobo have always had QC issues with updates and there are countless examples of updates where they have fixed some things but broken others. This is where my point about Xplane not having forced updates comes in. This is a real advantage in my opinion.
Totally.
But that is the nature of the beast for the online world.
MSFS is more like a MMORPG than any sim that came before it. And alas, that means everyone needs to be on the version the servers run.
Would I give up that world for X-Plane? No. I still haven’t bought 12.
To me that MSFS world is the main attraction. Especially flying places I would never think to bother downloading scenery were I flying on X-Plane.
