Ok, the challenge is - can I have a friend bring round a Quest 2, have it installed on a largely empty PC (aside from MSFS on it of course) and test it, all inside of, say, 5 hours?
I have seen multiple posts about how fiddly these things can be to set up, hence the question.
Is there anything I can install before he gets here to help speed up the process?
I’m really excited about my first foray into VR. I just want to make sure I’m not sat there for four and half of the five hours setting it up!
I don’t know how fast your Internet connection is, but on my 75Mbps connection and speedy 5600X and Nvme SSD 4.0 it took about 7 hours to finish downloading and installing the Premium Deluxe version of the game which was over 100GB.
Apologies. I should have been clearer. I have msfs installed and playable. It’s the only thing on a pretty powerful PC.
I just have no idea how long it takes to set up and use a Quest 2
It’s taken months to get my Q2 to a descent level. Problem is, there’s so many parameters with regard to ones system, various updates from Oculus, MSFS, Nvidia and Windows.
And they keep changing, and we have to adjust to those changes.
I finally got some good results just this past week, after owning my Q2 for 2 months now.
Recent updates have made things much better, and improving every day. Buy one for yourself, you won’t be sorry.

Exactly! You get the general idea and feel of the 3D immersion, but you must tweak it up to your pc specs and liking. This can take some fiddling and time. I even have prescription lenses for the Q2, which replaces wearing my glasses.
I finally got my VR PC and quest 2 last week - To be honest after months of reading the forums and how much tweaking people are doing I was very pleasantly surprised at the default plug and play experience! Maybe it’s because I have a powerful PC (10850k, 3090) but all I did was install the latest Nvidia drivers and the latest Oculus software (opting into the beta) and it was great. Yes you can then get the debug/tray tool if you want to drop the FOV or increase the super sampling, but having played around with these now I’m still very impressed with just the defaults
I’m going to drag as much life out of my RX590 as I can. I refuse to spend $2000 on a video card for this game. $2000 gets you an FAA approved IFR flight simulator with money left on the table.
I will say MSFS 2020 runs just fine in 2D mode. It’s perfectly smooth and a delight to use. VR mode with an RX590… not so much.
