I´m getting various BSOD when installing FS. After the Bluescreen it hangs up on Searching for updates

I´m playing on the Steam version and I had the game installed before and it worked just fine.
At this point I just dont have any ideas how to fix it. I checked my Ram with MemTest86 2 times and checked all drivers and all possible updates for anything. Nothing helped in that case.

my Specs:
ASUS ROG Strix x470-F Gaming
Ryzen 7 2700x
32GB Vengence Pro RGB 3200 MHZ
Palit GTX 980
Corsair MP400 m2.SSD

I hope someone can help me with this

Hi! I’ve moved your topic into #bugs-and-issues:performance This area is for Bugs & Issues which you may receive better help in.

Ah yes thanks. Sorry I´m new here

Have you checked the health of your M.2 drive?

I installed it 2 days ago so its new
Windows is running on it and i double checked it with the Windows tool and didn´t get any issues

What error is the BSOD showing?

I´ve not seen every BSOD because i wasn´t at my computer all the time
Page Fault In Nonpaged Area
system service exception
unexpected kernel mode trap
And I only get bluescreens while installing FS
Also tried installing it on another SSD but same problem

“Page Fault In Nonpaged Area” usually results in a BSOD and can be quite frustrating to troubleshoot. The error is caused by Windows not finding a file within memory that it expects to find.

I would first check in your BIOS what speed your RAM is set at and what XMP profile is used.

MSFS does use the GPU first for installing. Another thing to check is the virtual paging (memory) file in Windows.

This is either a disk drive failure or a Windows failure. Windows is either writing or reading a memory page from a part of a disk allocated for paging. But there is something wrong with the memory adresss on the disk. Either Windows has a broken memory allocation table, there is a hardware problem with the disk or disk controller, or there is a problem with either the disk partioning or formatting. The numbers on the BSOD screen can help you troubleshoot this problem with Microsoft. It is not a MSFS problem.

Ram Speed and XMP Profile are correct and working fine.

Okay, if the problem persists I will do a completely new installation of Windows
and maybe it will fix itself then

Another problem I have is that after MSFS downloads for example the Seattle Airport it will try to unzip it for ages so I have to delete the files in the installation path and then after I restart the download it works. This happens every 3-12 GB

If anyone has a similar problem after getting a new M.2 SSD like me: I had no real solution for fixing the BSOD. So I removed the M.2 and now my system runs stable and I haven’t had a single BSOD since then. MSFS Download and Installation worked as well.

Out of curiosity, what brand of M.2 did you buy? These M.2’s can get too hot if there’s not adequate cooling. I had a Samsung EVO 970 that was causing a lot of issues about 2 weeks after buying it. I’ve also noticed that zendesk has asked several users if they have MSFS on that type of M.2 drive.

Happy you found the culprit!

It was a Corsair MP400 temps were at about 40-45 degrees Celsius.
Really strange that my whole system went crazy because of this.
Thanks for your help!

You should contact the SSD manufacturer and the motherboard manufacturer. If these are new and under warranty, you should be able to get a refund or a replacement.
