I never thought

In all my 77 years I never thought I would enjoy a flight sim like I do with MSFS it blows me away ever time I fly, nothing out there comes close to it and it is not ever finished yet.
And just look at the FREE add-ons they keep adding it has so much to offer me.
Thanks MS.

I’m tending to agree with you. When I started with FS2, I dreamed of the day we would have something like we have now.

Only 7 years younger than you, a former airport engineer, and now a recreational pilot IRL, and a life-long simmer, I feel the same as you and am excited for the future of the Sim. I have been on the Sim virtually every day since the first alpha day. But I feel very sorry for the, it seems significant, number of people who cannot enjoy the Sim because of downloading problems, CTDs etc. I hope MS-Asobo can keep developing the Sim but at the same time address the problems perhaps a bit more quickly. Cheers.

Yeah, it’s still work in progress. But one shouldn’t expect a fully working machine from the first day on (with such a complex software). All other sims had their glitches too.

Absolutely agree with the OP. Super exciting, and really offers a wonderful escape from the monotony of these strange times.

I couldn’t agree more with the OP… I was in the data communications and networking business for 50 years and WISHED we had fast enough links to support the near-real-time applications such as MSFS.

No matter how “fragile” many of the users of today think MSFS is, it is in reality, a quantum leap forward. And the best is yet to be!

Personally I think MSFS is astounding!
Yes there are bugs and annoyances but overall the software is great.

There are a lot of people on here who expected perfection day one (and surprise surprise) didn’t get it.

As a person who’s been involved in IT for all my working life, I fully understand that software will never be perfect. You only have to look at the vast variety of hardware and combinations of software that people run to realise designing something that will run perfectly on everything will never happen.

MS and Asobo have committed to resolving bugs and adding features. I just wish people would cut them a bit of slack and give them the time to fix things and make this thing even better.

All the moans on this forum about “why can’t artists be re-purposed to fix bugs” and why fixes can’t appear “in-an-instant” get a bit tedious. There is no magic wand you can wave over this process (especially in a pandemic which has shut down half the world).

There will always be imperfections, MFSF is written by humans but until we get better…I’ll keep flying.

Perhaps an abstract measure of your enjoyment of the sim would be how you answer the question “Have you ever used time acceleration?”.

I didn’t even know it was a thing until a month or so back.

And conversely, why do I want to fast forward and miss all the eye-candy??? The fact that I can pause the simulator and “pause for the cause” nature insists on, makes the simulator all the more amazing.

Let me guess; your a VFR fly by hand GA type. Me too. This is the first sim where this is really possible out of the box. Even dead reckoning is there in photogrammetry areas. Usually we are the ones that have to wait for add on sceneries etc and even then it was carp.

Now if your a IFR auto pilot, ILS type things are not that great and waiting/ being patient/ waiting for add ons is now your world. Just remember us VFR guys have been waiting for 35 years you guys should have no problem waiting a year or so for this sim to pan out for you.

Just like I feel. It is, with all its points that can still be improved, the greatest experience in my 36 years gamer career. The only other game/sim I spend that much time and afford was Elite! Long time ago.

If not tried it by now go VR.

It will let you sit there mouth open. I will never go flat again. And I’m so excited to see what else is to come.

Live long and fly safe!

Well, the main breakthrough is undoubtedly the photo-realistic world. IFR pilots don’t care, looking outside is cheating.
Yes, I agree, this is the first time I can use a simulator out of the box, take any map and start flying VFR. Spotting a remote farm in the middle of nowhere, which confirms that I’m on the right track, is something I’ve never enjoyed in a simulator until now.

I really appreciate the updates (well, not the one with the peaks…). The improvements of some parts of the world give the possibility to discover new places. And I was a bit amazed to receive the AIRNAV updates the same day they were released IRL.

When I get really frustrated with the flight model I look outside and see something like this…

I absolutely agree with the OP. I have played FS since FS3, SubLogic ATP and also other Flight simulators on other machines, such as the ZX Spectrum. There was always the missing “realism” that threw me out. This is different, and still amazes me. Yes there are some issues, but they are really small in most cases.

Loving flying this.

Actually, using the A320 Custom Flyby Wire mod, the latest version seems to have most of the navigational kinks worked out and works well in the sim.
It doesn’t hiccup over the transition to the STAR, holds ILS fine etc.
You don’t have to wait a year if you don’t want to!

I must be one of those cheaters, I’m half pilot, half passenger.
I do as much gawking as I do flying.
It’s so nice, you want to see it all!

Me too!

When I’m not trying to figure out the big airliners, I’m puttering around in the Cessna props.

And when I’m doing that, the first thing I do once airborne is establish a scenic altitude and let Auto take over. Then, I just point my plane at whatever seems interesting using the HDG knob and fly by…

Totally agree here as well… even I’ve been able to figure out the FBW A320neo. Great fun!
