Win11
Intel I9 14900K
DDR5 @6000Mhz
Nvme2 @ 7000 read and write
RTX 4070 (my old card will be replaced soon with 5090)
MS Settings: mostly all sliders at high, Tlod 100, Olod 100, FG on, DLSS Quality, 4K resolution
I started my sim like always at EDDM with GSX running and the 737 Max 8. I locked inside the nvidia settings 70 FPS. The Sim ran smooth with no problems @70 fps. Perfect!
Perfect until today.
I started a new flight, same settings, same aircraft, flight from EDDM to LFJK. I suddenly was main thread limited, the red color one. The Fps falling down from 70fps to 50, sometimes 40 or less.
The strange thing is, it’s not happened yesterday and it’s also at cruising altitude and also while flying over the ocean. How is it even possible? Am I missing something or something else?
Would be great to get some help, I definitely run out of ideas to solve that.
No, it didn’t turn off today. I just tried different things like changing screen resolution and of course turning off frame generation to see if it makes any difference.
For the moment i got better results with setting inside nvidia settings the fps lock back to default (unlimited).
Simple, if the CPU is at 100% utilization, you are GPU limited, if the GPU is at 100% usage you are CPU limited. It’s always recomended to be CPU limited than GPU limited
As soon as the single core running the mainthread hits 100% you are already limited. The mainthread basically orchestrates all other threads running on different (virtual) cores.
That’s the reason why Asobo offloaded more tasks to other cores, so there is more headroom left for the mainthread.
Overall CPU utilization unfortunately (especially on MSFS 2020) does not tell the whole story
I find the simplest method to determine what is limiting your system is to look at GPU utilisation. If it is at 100%, you are GPU limited and if less you are CPU limited.
