If you have a "double image" issue in VR

I just spent 3 hours fixing my VR problems, so I thought I’d do a post should it help some other poor soul.

My setup : AMD 9800X3D, RTX4090, HP Reverb G2, Windows 11 version 25H2, VR through the Oasis driver on SteamVR.

This issue I had (first noticed it this morning) :

  • in VR in the headset, the image was doubled. Like, imagine, you duplicate the image, display it on top of the other but when you move your head, the second image is moving 1/3 of a second after the other. Felt like I had downed two bottles of wine.
  • in the VR image displayed on the 2D screen, no problem
  • in 2D mode, no problem

After a lot of useless attempts (reinstalling stuff, changing settings) I realised that the culprit was the “Reprojection Mode” of the VR settings in MSFS. Here are my settings now :

I’m pretty sure I had it on before without issues … But there is something about how these things interact

  • Latest Oasis driver
  • Latest nVidia driver 610.47
  • MSFS 2024 SU5

that changes the required settings, at least on my PC. It has to be off.

I hope this will be helpful.

Reprojection mode is broken in SU 5. If you need it, just enable it in your Headset, and leave Reprojection Mode OFF.

I did not enable anything specifically, but the performance post-fix was great and the fps super smooth, so I guess that the Oasis driver enables its own reprojection by default.

Also, my tinkering led me to test “Foveated Rendering” and to my surprise it also works great and probabled helped to achieve the overall smoothness.

Also also : the screenshot shows DLSS in “Performance”, but “Quality” is a valid choice for most planes, the latest versions of the software “stack” (nVidia 610 with DLSS 4.5, latest Oasis, SU5) is really good (when setup properly, therefore my post).

I run Foveated and DLSS Performance as well. It’s surprisingly good.
