If you were showcasing MSFS VR, what would you choose?

I would like to showcase MSFS in VR to my father (77 years old) - hes a long time avgeek so I know this will blow his mind when he first dons my VR headset!

My question is

If you were showcasing MSFS to a friend / family member and really wanted to give them the WOW factor of VR…what, where and when ?

  1. Aircraft
  2. Location
  3. Time of day
  4. Weather (Cloud cover)
  5. Phase of flight

Be good to know any moments that really left you in awe…

thanks!

1.Cessna 152
2.Above Sydney Opera House (ORBX Sydney scenery)
3.5pm
4.Few clouds
5.Mid flight

I would suggest installing this AUSTRIA 10m DEM - High Resolution Terrain Elevation Data from LIDAR Imaging » Microsoft Flight Simulator and flying over the mountains in a biplane.

Afternoon flight in the Vertigo from Glasgow to Dundee. 60 miles in under 15 minutes at treetop level. A total blast in VR :sunglasses:

MB-339 - fast, low level.

Mach loop (Wales UK) daylight/clear (or some low clouds for fun)

A scoot around the hills/mountains near Queenstown New Zealand. daylight/clear

Sheik Zayed Road, Dubai. (take off out of Dubai international. Hang a left, line up with the longest straightest road you see, fly fast and low)
Best done at sunrise/sunset or at night.

Downloaded flight recorder, free.

Spitfire
Meigs Field free addon.

Recorded a 10 min flight, taxi out, takeoff on 36, fly around the skyline and lakeshore, return and land on 18, taxi back in.

Easy to set up and replay, and he could just sit and enjoy the views. At the end of the flight, flight recorder just stops replaying and you’re left at the controls with the engine running. Time to take the controls and fly it himself.

that sounds great - i didnt even know you could do this !

My dad liked it. 79 years old, former private pilot. Maybe choose the xcub. Spitfire is a little rough on the ground.

  • Aircraft - Let him pick. If he’s flown before, he will be familiar and it will blow him away.
  • Location - Your home town. Again, he will be familiar and it will blow him away, much more so than taking him to some exotic location. Tranlating the familiar into the virtual has much more of an impact.
  • Time of day - anytime except noon. Mid-morning or mid-evening
  • Weather (Cloud cover) -
  • Phase of flight -
