If you're having any issues after the latest 1.8.3.0 patch, remove and reset every single mod you did to the sim

I’ve spent a while reading many different forums and their responses to the latest 1.8.3.0 patch.

It seems that the overwhelming majority have experienced improved sim performance with better fps, accurate wind data, negligible amount of stutters.

However, there are also a fair amount of users who’ve reported worsened sim performance after the update, which is very odd.

I’ve noticed that there are some people who had issues after the update re-installed the sim completely and then experienced significantly improved performance, as the patch updated was intended for.

So maybe, just maybe, your performance issues are your own making, as you hastily tweaked config files and did things to the sim folders which you weren’t supposed to after the launch. These broken files are potentially clashing with the new update and causing the performance issues.

My advice

  1. Backup all your scenery/aircraft/livery addon files and folders.
  2. Do a FRESH INSTALL of the sim from scratch
  3. Report back if you’re still experiencing the same issues on the DEFAULT SIM.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Edit: This post is not addressed towards other new bugs such as missing sensitivity screen, A320 engine bugs etc. These require another update/hotfix.

Agreed. Empty your community folder, even though it shouldn’t be necessary, reset your trees, glass cockpits, throw your backups (you did hopefully) back in and reset whatever you did to the sim. Leave it plain vanilla! Then let the update roll, and all should go well.
Also consider unpacking huge files takes its time! Maybe update’s not hanging just because nothing is happening for 10 minutes or more.
Don’t cancel and close, just let it do its thing.
It went absolutely fine for me is all I can say.
After all is done, restart your pc for the changes to take effect.
Happy flying :slightly_smiling_face:

Yep… have not installed a single mod and not one issue. Update is working well and as expected😀

Same here, except for some scenery mods, and the the mod that changes the nameplates for other aircraft to something more minimalist. I removed the 152, and 208 mods.

So you’ve got sensitivity settings? Your A320 is flyable without engine shutdowns from cold and dark?

Within the constraints of what has already been reported, yes. Sensitivity options are not there, but I don’t fly airliners. I have no interest in them, as I only fly GA.

For me, again within those constraints, this was a good patch.

Those are not resulting from incorrectly tweaked files, those are bugs and they require a separate patch update. My post was addressing the issues related to decreased fps, more stutters, and broken weather even after the update

Yes, well i am glad for you in that case but you need to specify its good for YOU, and understand that its not for others.

Referring to CTDs, sim’s not starting at all, worse fps than before, things like that. Those can be avoided with the right steps before updating.
Things you’ve mentioned will get a hotfix soon. I hope.

Thing is though, they weren’t broken before the patch…

The update was massive. Fixing one thing breaks another. Nothing new in the world of pc games.
Oversights while testing, no doubt but expectable with this huge amount of code.

I find performance to be exactly the same as the previously patch, with or without mods. I’m fine with that.

What I am not fine with is how broken this patch is from a general bug perspective.

So how do we ever move forward?

I’m not having issues after installing the patch. The patch won’t download! Stuck on JFK airport. The game is now useless to me as it want to update before running.

Slowly. With faith and patience! :joy:
Keep in mind, devs also had their well deserved offtime after release and now be back working at it. It all takes time. They’re no wizards.

Part of the problem, and I refer specifically to the engine troubles on the A320, many people report the issue is affecting them, a smaller number say it doesn’t, but absolutely no one goes into any detail of how they are testing this.

And when directly questioned on this, everyone goes radio silent for some reason. How can we move forward? We can’t if the community won’t help itself.

Simply saying “it’s broken” help no-one, just as “it all works great” doesn’t either.

None of what gets written on the forums here would help one jot if it were posted to Zendesk as part of a helpdesk ticket.

Details are key, step by step instructions on how to cause the bug to manifest, and steps to avoid it.

Reading between the lines, its possible one key difference is your starting position i.e. engines already running vs cold & dark.

But again, no feedback from either camp to confirm this.

So here we sit, the community explains its frustration, rightly so, but also seemingly unwilling to help itself with some basic troubleshooting steps.

Was Community completely empty by default?

I removed everything from my community folder as suggested and then after put everything back in. I had never made any modifications to anything in the ‘official folder’ for this very reason of potentially messing up future patches (at this early release point especially).

Just tried London in the A320, all settings to high except ultra texture resolution and the glass cockpit refresh to meduim. I’m using 4K with 80% rendering scale on a gtx1080, 32gb ram and 6700k @4.5ghz. I have Orbx London City Airport (where I departed from) and Landmarks pack and my fps went from a very stuttery 18 to 24fps to 28 to 34 fps in the same scenario with much less stuttering. I of course have the A320 bugs as reported. Happy to see a step forward with peformance and hope they fix the a320 and other pressing bugs with a hotfix.

I would recommend the OPs advice especially about removing the content of your community folder (just cut and paste to somewhere else temporarily) prior to updating and do not mod the game files directly at this early juncture of release.

I’m with you - only GA at the moment. I have no tweaks to program files.

Before this update (1.8.3.0) I was unable to do a circuit of Sedona in the Flight Training without major pauses and stuttering. I’m pleased to say this is no longer the case and I have been able to move some of my graphic settings up a notch. So a vast improvement for me.

I am still, however, landing in the wrong place :flushed: as I continue to get " just not where I expected you to land".

I don’t get why you’re claiming you don’t need sensitivity options while at the same time saying you only fly GA. If anything needs sensitivity (because you fly by hand more), it’s GA.
