If you just took off from an airport and didn’t respond: wouldn’t ATC do more than wish you a good day?
I’m not a pilot but I think there’d be more to it than that, no?

Yes of course. Ignoring ATC is frowned upon to say the least. But since MSFS can’t fine you or take away your license I guess they opted for that approach. “So, you don’t want to talk to us, well then we don’t want to talk to you either.”
Use Copilot #2 and AI ATC conversation.
Yeah you’d be in trouble if it is a controlled airport that is.
They would target your plane with ground-to-air missiles and Flak cannons and force you to land accompanied with two F-16 Falcons until you finally become talkative again
Okay maybe not that extreme, but the PPL license would be revoked after landing because of entering and flying through various airspaces and landing on an airport without ATC clearance.
The first time that happens a good lie is a way out: “My radio transmitter failed”.
Depends… in reality there are airspaces the violation of which are a crime. ED-R for example. There‘s happening more than just a gone license. Taking off from a controlled airport most likely depends, too, regarding the outcome, endangering or not but there‘s certainly no excuse to make it an accident. You have to know the correct frequency and if you call „info“ or „traffic“ you‘ll be corrected that it‘s „tower“.
The only possible excuse that might work is a really inop radio which you believe to work properly and the believable statement that you thought you‘re departing an uncontrolled airport. So you might just think that your „info“/„traffic“ call was simply not heard by anyone. This departure would probably have no bad consequences.
An approach into a controlled airport with broken comm is no legal problem, there are procedures how to do that, check your areival/approach charts. Of course, landing at a busy international airport with a C172 with broken comms will most certainly lead to the authorities question your sanity. But I don‘t think there are actual laws that prohibit it. The lecture is always „suitable airport“ though in case of emergency or urgency.
In offline flightsim? The first thing I always do as soon as the battery is on is switch to 121.50. I won‘t deal with this ATC.
Saving this one for later as a get-out-of-jail-free card
What does switching to 121.50 do? I am getting tired of the constant Landmark**** expedite your descent nonsense. And WHY is almost every other plane in the air a Landmark.
The generic call sign for GA is set to “Landmark”. You can find it in the aircraft.cfg .
121.50 is the international emergency / SOS frequency. It is to be monitored only and every ATC and basically every larger aircraft does it. ELT’s send their emergency tone on 121.5.
There is also 123.45 which is considered the chit-chat frequency, no idea if it’s officially assigned anywhere.
Thanks for answering that
This is in a flight with no flight plan or arrival airport selected. YMMV if you put an arrival airport or made a flight plan at the world map.
If you spawn from the runway, ATC will try and contact you after you take off a few times but will eventually give up.
If you spawn on a parking spot and never initiate with ATC they will leave you alone.
This is how I spawn in when using Pilot2ATC. I still keep FS ATC on and the voices volume up because I prefer to use the in game ATIS vs the P2A ATIS. Then I use P2A for all other ATC interaction.
I’ve figured out by reading /r/flying on Reddit that guard (121.50) in the US is rife with goofing off, meowing, LGB, and other horsing around.
Last flight the co-pilot refused to communicate with the ATC. No idea why.
While it is certainly unrealistic, MS/Asobo need to seriously re-work ATC before people are going to even try to adhere to it. As of 2022, still, it is rare to have a flight where ATC works.
