I'm Considering a New Monitor for my Existing MSFS Machine

I added the aspect ratio, because I did not understand it. So thought it would help. I would be very judicious in any monitors I was considering. I would read at least 30 different reviews, and also check YouTube for actual visual hands on reviews. We have Samsung TV, it’s very good, no issues with it, but reviews are your best friend. When working in IT we used ViewSonic mostly, not too many issues then, cannot speak to now.

https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/49-odyssey-g9-gaming-monitor-lc49g97tssnxdc/#benefits - The above monitor is very good on the specifications side, please go lower and read reviews. I don’t know when the quality control issues were fixed, as I never considered this one because of the reviews. But based on the first person’s experience, because they would not fix it, would look elsewhere. I have some experience with ASUS, as my last laptop just died after the first year. Called them up, they issued RMA immediately, and shipping box was at my remote location in 4 days. I got unit back in two weeks, perfect, in fact gave it to GF recently and I got a new ASUS one in March. So, I would investigate ASUS monitors, and great review on the 49" model on YT. This young lady does excellent presentation on anything she reviews, so see if she does one on a model you are considering.

I also like this fellow, but he tries to ham it up some, and puts me off on some of his reviews. Also, they seem to longwinded sometimes, but he is excellent technician/reviewer anyway. -

But, many factors on your end choice, budget, cockpit or what kind of space, is MSFS the only thing it’s gamed on? Space for big one, medium one, etc. Mail Order, or buy in store? B&H Photo and Adorama out of NYC are excellent highly respected stores/mail order sources. I have used both in my photography days, excellent customer support. They sell monitors, so check them out for source. Not sure if you are overseas, that may put crimp on those places. Alas, Amazon is another place, and they, Costco, and aforementioned stores have excellent Customer Support. I would be curious on what models you are considering, and if not 4K why not, as prices have dropped considerably. 8K is still too expensive and not sure if any video cards support that as of yet. It was mentioned in the aspect ratio article, that gaming monitors seem to be 6-12 months behind TV in getting higher resolutions. Many factors affecting reason, hardware and games would need serious updates to take advantage of that resolution. Suspect this sim won’t see 4K or even 8K for 2-4 years. Yes, it can be stretched to that, but not sure if it would look washed out or what. And if like most of us, don’t keep up on stuff until the stuff I am looking for is the stuff I am getting ready to purchase. Some paradox there I know.

Dell - my personal experience with Dell is very bad, also used at work, with 3000+ employee base, then they took care of things, but for individual, not so much. When ASUS laptop died, we went to Sam’s club and got 15" dell laptop for GF, that was the biggest hunk of junk I have ever owned, it went back in two weeks, HDD would never work properly, finally quit booting up period. Late in 2018, we got her a Dell Desktop, now it’s like 18 months old, it’s sitting on my desk, as again, it has the slowest boot times on this planet, Dell would not fix it, Costco cannot take it back, and it’s so hosed up, even Dell’s USB Reset program cannot recognize the PC, even though is shows up then gives error. I don’t recommend DELL anything based on those experiences. Not too badmouth but facts are facts. Personal preference based on past experience. Too longwinded I know. Hope it all helps.
