Hi there, I am looking for an good aircraft radio, although I won’t transmit on the radio…I’m also a ham radio operator. I am going all out for flying.
How about this? No need for a radio and you don’t have to be close by to the airport.

There are many quite reasonable scanners ranging from handheld, through desktop and even software driven. As a ham enthusiast, you will already know the possibilities here. Over the years they have become cheaper and more capable. The perennial problem of aerial signal reception is there and while it is quite possible to spend a small fortune, a bit of research will get you what you want, for a lot less.
The Yaesu FT3DR is a great choice. And it doesn’t let you transmit (even by accident) on the air bands, so you’re safe there.
I have one and I can easily pick up air traffic in my area.
Pretty happy with this one Amazon.com and this antennahttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008H5RYP4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 FWIW
