I'm lovin' it!

I would like to join the praise. I am so happy with MFS! I have been hit by a few glitches and bugs, but it is getting better all the time. I have close to 300 hrs on it now. I am expecialy enjoying the CJ4 with WT update , and the Stearman.

Just to throw in some of my Xbox experience. I’m on the Series X with a Turtle Beach Velocity One and Mouse/Keyboard. I really enjoy the experience, learned a lot of stuff, even took some real life private lessons in a Cessna and I’m in my virtual cockpit every week. Really enjoying the software despite some bugs. I fly GA, mostly the Baron G58 and I’m still impressed every time.

I haven’t got too many grumbles with the sim to be honest. Yes it’s glitchy at times and the latest nvidia update broke my sim but when you are trying to achieve stability on the thousands of different set ups that’s always going to happen. I think for the purist simmers it probably needs a lot of work but for a dip your toe simmer it on the whole does what I need it too. I don’t spend 100’s of hours on it so that probably has an impact on my views.

I must say I agree. The new weather representation in the beta is awesome (and by far the best I’ve seen among sims) and I’m having the time of my life with the Milviz Porter PC6 and my Reverb G2 VR headset and VATSIM. I fly for hours now every evening and enjoying it intensely.

Even then it’s so random that half the people with the exact same setup would get CTDs most of the time.

Presumably, you mean the 10% who make 95% of the noise?

well, even with just 5% of all the sales having an issue, of which about 15% making all the noises in here, is still a pretty big number, filling the forum with the posts we actually see here… i’m guessing the other 85% of people with issues either know how to use the forum search function, or are just not bothered and move onto other things, or maybe just uninstall the mods they had which broke the sim in the first place, unless ofcourse it’s the installer that just verified the files were in order, whereas they are not…

Anyways… back on topic…

i got a GTX 1080 here and i’m running on Ultra, no hassles, i dont even look at the framerate, but i have had an overall pretty good flying experience using this game for leasure. i’ve been waiting to upgrade my ageing card, but after i’d already spent 1100 euro’s upgrading everything else, i wasn’t going to top it off with another 1500+ euro card just to have a few extra frames. Flightsim has been a bad boy at times, with bugs and stuff, and as other, i browse the forums to see what up… i dont fly so much that every update will get me pulling out my hairs, as i’ve got other games that can take up my time as well, but overall i’m lndeed also loving it! exploring the world as much as i can, flying over desolate places you’d probably never get to visit in real life, and all the locations that others provide for me to put pins on the worldglobe to discover when i’m back flightsimming. Ofcourse a bug here and there is what i expected, as the creators said that they would be working on this project for the next 10 years… that lead me to believe that we will indeed find troubles. Or have to find workarounds… and i’d like to thank also the people in here that have actually discovered the workarounds and helped tons of other people get their flightsim going again. And also provide the helpers in the forum with not having to post an entire lecture, but just a link to the post solving that person’s problem… so the forum is also a very big help here. So, thanks to all participating in this forum, making this a nicer place, visitors, regulars and moderators alike, thank you very much!

A mate of mine took me to the coast of miami for a low pass… it was epic, highly recommend it in the SIM (not in real life… please!)

Woof ~ Woof & Salute!

We might not see it every day, but posts like yours, brighten up the moods of those trying to help and give hope for those who’ve almost given up on the title, while we all know it’ll be worth it in the end.

47 posts before the first really negative post. That may be a new record!

It frustrates me when I see simmers with much better specs struggling to make the best of their expensive hardware and then blaming the sim.

Wow, I really did not expect so many responses when I started this! But on the other hand I suppose I should not really have been surprised as I had a similar reaction to a similar thread that I started more than a year ago:

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/hugely-enjoying-this-sim-game/320268?u=slabsfly

I suppose some people, particularly those that are struggling, would find my posts Pollyanna-ish but really, this truly reflects my experience. And sometimes I am so struck by what I am seeing I feel I HAVE to comment on it. So it is really great to hear from several other people that have similar experiences: thank you!

Thanks for the comprehensive reply: appreciated.

I must say this is one of the things in the forum that disappoints and rather spoils the experience for me. In my case, when I did have some CTD issues, a quick forum search solved my problem, But generally, one often sees people starting threads with the same issue over and over and over again and very frequently in very strident and vituperative terms. And while it is accepted that very often/normally the problem is real, a number of times it turns out to be operator error. And in that case, it is again disappointing to see that not all that many people have the good grace to apologise for their initial rants when the issue is resolved.

But in the big picture that is really trivial. In the mean time I will continue enjoying the sim AND the forum!

Don’t worry, the negative reviews will fade away, like the number of players.
Since August 1st, the proportion of active players has fallen by around 60%. Since publication by approx. 85%.
Only the lucky ones remain.

I am on a 13 year old gaming PC and I am still amazed to see that MSFS runs a million times better on this than FSX. This is what blows my mind. FSX would dip to single digit FPS sometimes and otherwise would hover at around 25FPS.

  • i7 920 @ 3.5Ghz
  • 12GB DDR3
  • GTX 1060 6GB
  • Win10 Pro

Now Im getting upto 47FPS. Granted this is not over cities (which I dont like flying over anyway) and also I cannot fly airliners. But all the other planes give me great performance.

Low and slow never looked so good. Yes the game has lots of issues but Im still enjoying it very much.

100% sure it’s not luck, but lets not get any more off topic

FSX is strictly single core and before SP2 pretty much single thread is probably why. It needed 2.4GHz just to be playable IMO.

Funny enough FSX was the first thing I tried after building my current PC (3800X), with everything reduced to minimum (including resolution) I was getting massive framerates even on a little GT1030, one day I might try again with my 3060 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Edit: point noted Gordon - you’re quite right so I think I’ll shut up now

Great, I’m glad you have a good performance. Yeah, I misread that, apologies. Hardware and setup can mean almost anything though, but let’s keep this thread positive.

And today I flew IFR from Charles de Gaulle, Paris, to Heathrow, London.

That’s not mediocre at all.
I have an i7, RTX2060, 16GB DDR4; if you look at the ā€œrecommendedā€ and ā€œidealā€ specs, it’s about halfway between the two. And it handles the sim really well.

No. That’s a lot high.
