I'm now in flighting 1.4.11.0 ... ask me how I know

I downloaded the latest flighting of Sim Update 2 from Steam this morning. As is my wont, I went to the Release Notes page after launching the sim to confirm I had the right version.

This is what I saw:

Not as helpful as it might have been. Despite this, however, it was obvious that I was in Sim Update 2 because in VR I had reliable access to the toolbar, and the EFB was displaying, albeit not at the right size, inside the cockpit.

But 1.4.10.0 or 1.4.11.0? Steam has no information about flightings, and now apparently neither does the sim.

I eventually solved the conundrum by looking for the EFB changes reported in the forum’s release notes - I have, apparently, successfully transitioned to 1.4.11.0.

But it would have been nice if confirming this had involved a little less work - say, by looking at the Release Notes page and it containing the right information.

Go to windowed mode, if you are able, to see the version number

ALT ENTER is the easy way to toggle between the two states.

What is flighting?

Duly noted, I’ll remember the advice.

But I’ve just logged in again and I’m now getting the correct release notes page. Which I didn’t the first two times I logged in this morning.

Flighting is the term used do describe a particular version of a Sim Update beta. 1.4.10.0 and 1.4.11.0 are different flightings (versions) of Sim Update 2 Beta.

Actually it’s a more generic term than that, related to Windows Insider, and not MSFS specifically.

@dagwit00001 The version number and update notes issue appears to be fixed now (for me). Like you, I saw no version number last night (about 8 hours ago) when Asobo first released the update. The version number and update notes appeared when I booted my PC and started FS2024 this morning. I don’t know if that was due to streamed fix by Asobo, or my system reboot and FS2024 restart.

You were getting the same page.

They had just updated it.

Flighting is a very confusing term

Especially for a flightsim.

Just to confirm: With the Windows Store versions of the betas, there’s no need to download a new “flighting” version, right? Once you’re in the beta it just updates the versions automatically as they come out?

Yes, it provides updates to the Beta as they come out.

Nothing to do.
The update installs automatically when you run FS2024.

I did two minutes’ reading last night, which has done little to mitigate my ignorance
but it does seem that ‘flighting’ refers to the process of testing as a whole, while the individual products of this process are referred to as ‘flights’ or ‘flighting builds’.

‘Flighting build’ is the term I now notice being used in the Release notes.

Edit: ‘Flighting build’, not ‘flight build’. If anyone has a spare memory they’re not using

If you ask me what I’m doing in FS2024, I’ll say that I am flying.

That is correct

Microsoft Store will automatically download updates as long as you are active in the beta. If you don’t want to wait for it to notice an update during the daily(?) check you can also launch the store app and check for updates in the download section.
