It’s been fun to obsess on my power usage. I’m glad I have solar panels!

I have a load meter on my UPS. It might be fun to hook up the data logger I use at work.

I wonder if I could trick the power company into paying for solar panels just for the sim?

Avgas is ridiculously expensive anyway… Mogas is car fuel and many engines can be either reworked to use it or use it by default.

But yep… the sim is power hungry ^^ I reduced my computer costs with the 4080 a lot ^^

Electricity usage PC and Xbox

So far I’ve found no useful data on electricity consumption for MSFS on either platform. Given the way power prices have shot up in much of the world, this is something to consider. Where I live prices are very near A$0.50 per kWh so if a PC was burning 1000W then that’s 50c per hour and could add up fast. Trying to guess actual power usage from component ratings is a waste of time because it really depends on what is running. Having access to both PC and Xbox I decided to make some measuremen…

This is something that needs to be examined very carefully - through the wrong end of the telescope . You have to consider, if there is an objective element to this, what would you be doing if you weren’t airborne in the sim? Would you be sitting quietly in the dark or staring down the barrel of a TV? Maybe operating a bunch of power tools putting shelves up for your wife or outside driving a petrol mower and polluting. On second thoughts, I don’t think that it needs to be examined at all, accept that the sim is a force for good and crack on. BTW, I’m using about 20% more energy than last year too, but that’s because it has been colder and there has been significantly less sunshine, so more heat needed and less solar provided.
