So I’ve just encountered a deleted official folder and I’m forced to redownload all of the content. Now I’m not blaming the sim for that, I did check the integrity of the game files through steam earlier, so maybe that caused it.
But the fresh install routine, with all due respect, is absolute non-sense.
Instead of downloading up-to-date package files one downloads an out-of-date package and then downloads every single patch that existed.
Needless to say this is highly inefficient and just bloats the amount of data you need to download since most of the patches replace files that were downloaded with the initial package and possibly previous patches.
I assume this is also the reason, why the installer won’t decompress while downloading because it has to make sure the right patches are applied at the right time.
So please, after an update has been released, create a newly packaged package file and please implement decompressing while downloading.
So I did some more digging and it turns out the .fspatch files are basically zip files. what follows is an exemplatory screen cap of one of the folders in fs-base-0.1.73.fspatch and *74.fspatch.
They are pretty much the same except for the occasional file that is missing.
If at least there’d be a “collector patch” that would contain all the patches from the latest full package file up until now. that would help a lot…
