Improving the current lightning strikes

I noticed lightning textures being used in x-plane 11, question is can something like this be modded into MSFS 2020?

I’d rather we don’t go the route of having 2D textures stuck in there. I rather like the volumetric clouds we have, instead of 2D clouds that rotate away from you as you approach them.

I’m sure I’ve seen lightning flashes before, I don’t know how they are drawn though.

Im not on about adding 2d textures or removing anything. I’m talking about improving the current lightning strikes. They can be improved thats for sure. One thing i did notice was the length of time the strikes last, they seem to hang around unnaturally once they strike, but thats a different topic

Volumetric lightning should be a cinch compared to clouds, I would expect. But as I say, I’m pretty sure I’ve already seen that, sitting at PANC during a storm.

Actually, as an aside, something thats really cool about the weather is that its not static. Flying high you can see the rain beneath clouds. Fly down, and land near them, and you can watch the storm clouds move towards you, and over you.

Would be interesting to find out how to edit those files and test some different strikes.
