I appreciate your eagerness to promote a workaround for the sound issue, but no one should need to do that. Also, as noted, there’s a couple of issues with it that need addressing for 2024.
This is a BS issue, it’s not a user issue.
If they can’t do it because [technical/license issues] then it would be better just to say it’s not being ported to 2024, I can understand that. It’s better than saying it’s coming but it never does. I’m happy to pay a small upgrade fee if it involves some work beyond simple tweaks, it’s a great plane, just give a defined timeline!
So, here’s a reply for you, direct from Nick at Black Square. Hope this helps you understand the current situation with developing for FS2024 a little more.
"I’m sorry to hear that you’re not currently able to enjoy the Velocity in MSFS 2024. It’s an old favorite of mine too. Unfortunately, there is nothing “simple” about updating these aircraft for MSFS 2024. I have been gentle while discussing this new simulator, but you can read about some of the onerous requirements and blocking bugs that we have to contend with in my [recent article on Just Flight’s website:
I’ve had to create and export 200+ new models for all my aircraft, rework all their lighting, adjust materials, change avionics, test systems, fix code, and even just generating new screenshots in MSFS 2024 can be several hours of work.
The Velocity in particular suffers from an oversight in MSFS 2024 that makes canard aircraft flip over backwards if you attempt to load them with the default EFB interface, which is not something I want to endorse to my customers as a “fully compatible, natively compiled aircraft” on the MSFS 2024 marketplace. I have a solution for this, but it would take extensive work. Unfortunately, my bug reports have all gone unanswered. It also took a few months to get a working GTN 750 and G3X interoperability solution, and some bugs were even discovered with the TDS GTN as recently as this month and were quickly fixed. The new pilot avatar system was also incompatible with the Velocity, since it does not allow for scaling, so the pilot’s head would stick through the top of the aircraft.
I could go on, but I thought I would share this for anyone reading here who wonders why it has taken so long for their favorite aircraft to arrive in MSFS 2024. You can read about my current plans for updates in the article linked above.
Once again, I apologize for the wait, but I generally refuse to release knowingly broken software or anything I feel is a regression of quality. MSFS 2024 has made it nearly impossible to maintain these principles."
It’s what I suspected, but hadn’t come across the JF article as I haven’t followed the Starship progress. I’ll have to settle for ye olde original for a while longer then, the Long Ez!
Turn down the Environment sound to about 10% to dampen the sound of air rushing around. Also, no way to turn down the brightness on those Garmin screens, so night flying is not optimal.
Im playing on Xbox series X and I have been having a bug woth this aircraft. Some of the sounds are missing for exemple no sound in 3rd person and I also have engine and turbine sound but no wing and control sound.
Not sure if the updates have made it to the MP yet for 2024 (assuming you are using 2024?)
On PC we had to download the update from supplier - in my case JF.
Yes sorry 2024 and it is updated as of recently the sounds are just not working properly. For exemple i have acces to preflight opening Doors for its last update
As I really appreciate the Starship I bought this beauty recently as a similar GA option for my hanger. It’s a really great little plane and I enjoy it a lot.
But (there is always a “but”, isn’t it?) I have some issues with the autopilot (in MSFS2024). When setup on the ground and independent of the vertical mode (VS, IAS or even ALT) after activating the AP it climbs like crazy until it stalls out (which, this is the nice thing, isn’t that critical at all in this plane). Does anyone else have this problem? My workaround is to switch on the AP and then off again when sitting on the ground, this seems to fix the problem (perhaps some uninitialized variable which is reset when turning the AP off?!?).
Uh, and Black Square, any plans to make the Velocity V-Twin?
It seems like it needs some fixes/adjustments for MSFS 2024 (at least as far as SU6 Beta is concerned, I haven’t tried it in the release version).
EGT and TIT are nearly always on the cusp of overheating. Leaning at altitude sends them both into the yellow zone nearly instantly.
The audio level is very soft. I can barely hear the engine in the exterior view and it’s quiet in the cabin, as well.
Engaging the auto pilot whist climbing put the aircraft into an immediate and severe nose dive.
I’ve not flown it long to note anything else.
Is anybody flying this in 2024?
EDIT:
I can’t get the NAV to recognize a VOR. I’m using the TDS version, and I can tune VORs, but I get no bearing or CDI indication within the HSI’s needle, it’s just blank there between the two ends of the pointer. I can see the TDS recognizes the name of the tuned VOR, but that’s about it.
While this question comes from the TDS side, can you please post a screenshot of the entire panel, showing both the WT G3X as well as the TDS GTNXi Pro (in the map page)?
Red hot. The autopilot is a but funky, yes. I had to use VS mode to get it to level off. No nose diving experienced yet in 2024. Needs a tuneup.
EDIT: after further observation, if I get it one notch into the yellow, after a few minutes it cools off and the yellow indicator extinguishes.
I did see on the Justflight website that it uses a high performance 400HP Continental TSIO-550 with dual superchargers. Could be it’s supposed to run hot.
Manifold pressure in the green zone really sends the temps up. It’s a race rocket! Lots of fun!
