In missions, ATC only detect reach of requested altitude from below

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: The ATC seems to only catch the reach of requested altitude from below.

Context :

  • In missions,
  • After having overshooted the altitude (e.g., went to FL180 instead of FL120),
  • ATC asks me to redescend,
  • When I reach the FL120 (or, requested ALT), the green mark doesn’t check,
  • I have to descend something like 1000ft below the req. alt.
  • And catch the requested altitude from below to get my green mark

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue: All

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Always

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Take an IFR mission
  2. Get over the planned FL, until the ATC (rightly) complains
  3. Descent to the requested altitude, which should be the original planned alt.
  4. Stabilize at this alt
  5. See that the green mark does not appear
  6. Descent 2000ft
  7. Go back to the req. altitude
  8. See that the green mark appears

• Yes - but worse, 737 climbs to FL360 under LVL CHG and even if I try going down 1000’ and back up to 36000’, Mission Step still is asking me to Climb to 36000 ft. Tried going up to 37000’, back down to 36000, it won’t register that I’ve reached 36000 and still thinks I’m in Climb phase. This means ATC won’t request Descent on time.

The problem, from what I can tell, is that the cruise altitude is detected based on standard pressure not the local barometric pressure as it should be. This results in you having to climb sometimes a few hundred feet over the assigned altitude before the mission shows a change from Climb to Cruise even though ATC will complain that you are 300 feet above your assigned altitude.

Try climbing to the assigned altitude using 29.92in / 1013 hPa and then descend back to the correct altitude using the correct local barometric altitude to ensure you get to the cruise phase properly.

I should qualify that I am speaking primarily for GA aircraft, and I noticed your screenshot looks like a Boeing airliner. Standard pressure is normally used at or above the transition altitude which for the US is 18,000 feet. Other parts of the world tend to be lower, and I’ve commonly seen 5,000 feet, 7,000 feet and in Australia 10,000 feet.
