Navigate to the flightsimulator.exe executable, right click, Properties, click the compatibility tab. In the lower half of the window under “Settings” put a check mark in the box next to “Disable fullscreen optimizations”. I went from 40 FPS in downtown Chicago on Ultra to between 50-53 FPS in the same location with the same settings. Obviously it’s dependent on hardware, but this one change improved my performance a significant amount.
Interesting. What if I play in window mode?
Thanks for the tip. I’ll try it!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll do some testing of my own in a bit and report back the results.
Tks a lot Captain!
Tried but no help here.
Yep, it didn’t change anything for me either. Still worth a try for others!
thank you. ill give it a try. your cpu, gpu, ddr ram speed and cpu cooler air or water ?
(to rule out variables)
Windowed mode seems ok
Sure, here’s my setup.
CPU: i9 9900KS
GPU: 2080ti
RAM: 32GB 3200
Air cooled Noctua.
This as many other posts is in the spectrum of “correlation is not cause”
Yes I believe you changed this setting and yes I believe you have better FPS now but it just may be the area you are flying, the rolling cache, whatever.
There are many “tips” like this one that probably don’t work.
I think we need some method of voting where users would post their remedies for FPS improvement like this one and others will vote if that worked too in their case.
Then we can just try the things that have been most succesful.
Just to clarify my methodology for testing this. I used manual cache that I downloaded for downtown Chicago and the surrounding area. No online traffic, clear skies to rule out any variance in live weather. I troubleshoot for a living and only make one change at a time and test. I reversed the change and FPS dropped by 10 FPS. Changed it back and FPS increased again. It’s a simple checkbox change that has also shown improvement in other sims which is why I tried it. If it doesn’t make a difference for you then remove the check mark and go back. YMMV.
Will try thank you!
Did not intend my post as something against your idea I just think we need a system to vote which remedies are the ones that are effective in most systems.
Thanks for your tip I will try it inmediately, as you said it is just a checkbox!
Cool, no problem. I would be interested to hear if it works. It worked foe me and my daughter and some people on Reddit who suggested I post here. Some people didn’t notice a difference as well but I am sure this is very dependent on hardware.
Go to Start -> Type flightsimulator.exe -> show file location.
Ok I tried it and it didn’t work for me unfortunately. But I also play in window mode only. So that may be why.
Tried, didn’t work, got back and forth a few times in different locations but nothing in my system.
