What is it?
Forward stick (down elevator) has no effect - i.e. you cannot push the nose down. Thereâs a typo in the flight_model.cfg that was not there before.
Makes you wonder about testingâŠ
If you feel comfy - open the flight_model.cfg, find the line (#177) that says:
elevator_down_limit =1.5
and change it to :
elevator_down_limit =15
And voilaâŠ
Other aspects of the update (visuals, cockpit) sound promising, though.
Not being able to steer the aircraft properly sounds pretty critical to me !
I havenât purchased it yet and looks like I still should wait quite a bit.
Really?! How does something like that make it into a release candidate? I mean, this is something that should be apparent after just one (attempted) flight. Youâd think doing at least one test flight would be mandatory after making any changes to the flight model.
Thanks very much for highlighting this issue.
Was this with the new Ini update and without any manual correction of elevator file?
Just Had a 1 hour flight with the latest update, (no mods) and had no problems with pushing the stick forward. Very enjoyable.
Mick
With the latest update. I just flew VQBT Bumthang to VQPR Paro without a problem. I can confirm nose down is limited, but pushing a bunt isnât something you want to do normally, the aircraft is quite willing to drop its nose without much effort by reducing power or trimming or a rolling descent, either way it never feels uncontrollable. Of course this minor error of a decimal place is wrong but hardly worth throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Anyone else have issues with the iniBuilds manager? I canât download or update anything?
Working for me.
I restarted my computer
Decided to buy it and it flies OK for me.
Much better handling on landing! Didnât have any pitch problems that I noticed.
Does this livery still work with the new version, or will you update it, if it doesnât? Even with the new version there doesnât seem to be anything that beautifully shiny in the default liveries.
It still works and looks absolutely glorious in the sim =)
Btw. I think the current flight model is quite good overall. At low speeds you can push the nose down quite far, only at higher speeds youâll notice the lack of elevator down authority. But since you would never do negative g maneuvers with a T-33 you wonât notice it during normal operations.
Think the lack of elevator authority at speed might be authentic.
From Barry Schiffâs pilot report in AOPA Pilot:
Although I had no desire to observe it, high-speed compressibility at high altitude causes airframe buffeting, reduced elevator effectiveness, and Mach tuckâa nose-down pitching moment that compounds these problems. The trick is to avoid Mach 0.80 above 30,000 feet.
Italics mine.
The POH (1951 revision) notes:
2-36. The elevator tab should be used with caution, especially at high speeds.
All of which seems consistent with the small tail surfaces and the lack of a flyable horizontal stabilizer.
Still havenât had a chance to try the update but interested to know if those observations make sense.
Hi all, this is Eddie from IniBuilds popping in to dispel some myths and misconceptions seen here as well as give some move insight into the T-33 update and flight model revisions we made.
As you can imagine, we donât approach this process haphazardly, nor do we âguess the numbersâ when making updates.
We are incredibly lucky to have engaged and worked with Greg Colyer, the foremost real-world T-33 expert and pilot, to helped verify our data as well as provide unmatched insight into the airframe and its quirks. I can assure you we combed over a significant amount of reference material and NASA/Manufacturer documents to get behavior as close to possible to reality within the limits of the FS engine.
Its also helpful to remember the T-33 isnât a high-alpha fifth gen fighter. Itâs built off the back of the very first jet-age platforms and still maintains a lot of P-fighter characteristics and limitations.
if you expect it to fly like an F-16 and treat it as such youâll die (or at the very least be disappointed) ![]()
Where I am sure many questions arise is when the topic shifts to comparing the âfeelâ (such a strange benchmark in a desktop based platform) of the update vs. version 1 and some 3rd party FM modifications many have used. While it is always amazing as a contributor to see how passionate simmers become regarding their favorite airframes, at times that passion gets at odds with hard data and verifiable parameters regarding the flight envelope. As we posted in our âdeep diveâ on our forum, the ârealismâ mod should be removed prior to updating and flying. We took a look through the values there and they donât really align with the data we have.
Despite that, I can assure you the values present in the updated config file are correct and no decimal error has slipped through. While some may assume we donât test these products, I can assure you we spend hundreds of man-hours verifying and rechecking updates and have an extensive method in place to ensure that sort of thing doesnât happen.
Ultimately, we want you to enjoy our products as well as feel confident we both meet expectations of quality while also taking in feedback of the community. Weâre very happy with the overall response to the T-33 and are looking ever forward as we refine the addon and get it to be one of the planes in your hangar you turn to the most!
Thanks!
Will the T-33 eventually make it to the Marketplace or will it have to be purchased directly?
Hey Eddie! Thanks much for popping in here.
Really enjoying the T-33, especially with the update. Great job on the Thunderbird âmetalâ update!
The updated flight modeling feels really good, and years of experience with sim fans expectations vs reality definitely make me give yâall the benefit of the doubt given your access to a real T-33!
The one area where it still feels a bit off compared to the pilot reports Iâve read is the engine response. I read about how slow response to throttles is why landing is done with everything out (flaps, gear, brakes) and throttle at 70%. But I find the throttle spools from low power to full in just a few seconds, which seems unrealistically responsive?
I appreciate the work on the decals; with the V1 we ended up with paints that had the roundels for Canada in the wrong place and shrunk due to mirroring not allowing the text by the roundel:
But one issue that seems to persist with the current setup is the inability to do camouflage schemes that arenât symmetrical due to the places where textures are still mirrored.
Anyway, all minor stuff. This is a really enjoyable plane to fly, and the visuals and sounds are absolutely wonderful! The minor nitpicks are because itâs so good we want it to be even⊠gooder. ![]()
Keep up the great work! Appreciate Iniâs quick response to community feedback with V1.1.
