I’ve been trying for 26 hrs , rebooting etc. stuck on the 7th file of the big files. almost 1/2 way through the deluxe version . I think the servers are overloaded…
yeah it seams to be a big file im stuck on. it gets all the way to 73% then just restarts downloading again. must be as you say the servers
This has driven me crazy. I tried following the suggestions here without luck.
Then I realised what I was doing wrong - I didn’t understand the comments properly!
In case it helps anyone else:
ISSUE: installation seems to freeze. In my case, it would show “please wait” on the left hand side, and occasionally the whole thing would close and I’d have to reopen it.
SOLUTION:
- I went to the folder I selected to install the game. Within that, is a folder “\Packages\Official\Steam”.
- Sort files by date / time stamp.
- Delete the last patch / package file. It might be “.001”, “.002”, “.fspatch” or similar. This is where I had been going wrong. I had been deleting just the last file, or even the last folder (e.g. “asobo-aircraft-dv20”), but this WAS NOT the issue. It has to be the most recent patch / package file.
- Just to be super helpful, I then did all the other things steam recommends (clear download cache, changed download regions, repair library folder), then restarted the computer. I honestly don’t know if that made a difference though - step 3 is the main one, step 4 was only to be sure.
- restart the download. It happily (after 16 hours of trying) redownloaded the file I had deleted, and continued on.
FYI - I’ve had to do this twice now, but each time, it has continued past the point it was at before.
I hope someone finds this useful, and I wish you all the best in getting this monster of a sim working!
I have the 3.68GB install issue. I think what caused mine was unplugging my logitech USB (unified control) for my keyboard and mouse (had to work on my laptop whilst desktop install proceeded. The split second I unplugged the usb, the download / install appeared to hang and on restart I got to 3.68GB. So if anyone wants to test this issue - they could try unplugging usb devices during install…
This evening I plan to start deleting the most recent installed files (4 at a time) and restarting things - as I heard that was worth a go… Be nice to get some official help from microsoft.
cheers. very helpful.
Thanks, worked for me, just deleted the latest patch file, it was tiny. Then rebooted and its started downloading the last 3.68gb
This is what worked for me:
Short method (Note, results in downloading ~56GB, which the long method below might avoid)
- Close flightsim
- Navigate to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore
- Delete all fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspackage.NNN and fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspatch files.
- Launch filesim. It will download all those files again and hopefully decompress them correctly this time.
- Then it will continue downloading/decompressing more files.
Long method
This issue seems to be caused by flightsim crashing while decompressing fs-base-cgl. Unfortunately, this seems to be one of the biggest archives downloaded, weighing in at ~56GB. This archive is split into 2gb chunks and as the updater decompresses each chunk, it deletes it.
If the updater crashes after deleting the first chunk, it has no way of recovering and just gets stuck.
The short method above just wipes everything, but we should be able to save what is already downloaded:
- Close flight sim.
- Go into C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore
- You should find a bunch of fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspackage. NNN files (in my case numbered 003 to 031) and a bunch of fs-base-cgl-0.1. Y .fspatch files.
- Note that some of the some of the fspackage.NNN files at the start are missing (the sequence should start from .001)
- Move all the fspackage.NNN files to another folder somewhere else on your system,
- Delete all the .fspatch files. (they only total about 30mb)
- Relaunch flight sim. The content downloader will start download the fspackage.NNN files again.
- Once it has download all the fspackage.NNN files you are missing, close flight sim.
because mine crashed while extracting the 3rd file, I only had to redownload 4gb. - Copy/move all the fspackage.NNN files that you moved away earlier back into the Packages/Official/OneStore folder. They should total 56GB.
- Finally, launch flightsim and let it continue updating. It should skip straight to downloading the .fspatch files and then decompressing fs-base-cgl-*
Hopefully this helps someone out there avoid a full redownload.
I bought ORBX londen city airport and landmarks. I did not do that from marketplace, but from their website. In the marketplace, I cannot see that I bought it (probably because the other place I bought it). On the map there is no star icon, indication it’s an advanced place. I’m not sure this is intended, but I would be great I that could be implemented.
This download is a Clusterxx of first order. I have been a MS FltSim user since Bruce Artwick and have never seen such incompetence at MS. I will not be buying this until MS incorporates the update into the program and allows me to install first and pay before first use. This may occur around December 2020. In the meantime FSX still flys at Steam and IFR flying does not need EyeCandy. Old Navy Pilot here.
This fixed it for me. My issue was that it would get to check for updates, and then when the blue bar got to 75%, it just did a CTD. Now, I can’t say if it was a coincidence or not, but I just did this and now it’s working.
Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ programs
Press the Windows Key + R, type "appwiz.cpl" and then press Enter.
Locate the Microsoft Visual C++ programs in the list.
Select each entry and then click Uninstall.
Download a fresh copy of Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime from here and then install it.
Got the new Visual C++ libs and installed
As soon as I did this, the ‘check for updates’ state completed and the game ran. If it was a coincidence then so be it, but maybe something worth trying.
Cheers

Hey, i tried to find the bug here but mine seems to be different. The Flight Simulator just closes itself while downloading. No crashreport or anything. Happens after a few minutes downloading. I cannot download more than arround 1 gb before it closes and i have to start all over again. Any suggestions please?
I tried to make the method faster, but when I got to \ localCache the folder is empty. I understood nothing!
ooo honestly mate not sure why it’s empty, make sure you’ve got both the digital ownership and the flight sim installed from either steam or Microsoft store and try again
Possibly looking in the wrong place however make sure it’s
(C:) > Users > username > AppData > Microsoft.FlughtSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe l > LocalCache > Packages > Official > OneStore then scroll down and you’ll find the fspatch files
I was an Alphatester and many me included had this issue with stuck at the tbm screen because of a non ascii letter in the Windowsaccountname. I did had an ö in my Account. I had to remove that and it worked.
Actually all of the errors seen now have been reported a 1000nd times in the alpha from the beginning. Their answer to this was a release date…
i had same issue, i know its a pain in the @$$ but i had to uninstall and re install. Took ages but at least it works now
I uninstalled on Steam and start from scratch again, I want to see what will happen.
There is this same discussion via Steam (I can’t include the link unfortunately)
And I tried everything they said.
But still it doesn’t work.
I did manage to download about half of the files, but it took me about 5 hours and restarting my pc countless times and switching between WiFi, cable, using a VPN, not using a VPN and all the stuff said in the Steam discussion.
I tried it all and every time it is the same problem. He downloads a bit of a package and at a random percentage it goes back to 0.
I had some luck and some packages did download but after 1 package the same problem appears and the next package does not download.
And it is not consistent when it does download. With same settings for VNP and wifi and stuff it sometimes does work and sometimes not.
So I don’t know what to do anymore.
It seems to me it probably is a server sided problem.
Microsoft if you see this:
Please fix it.
I’m seriously thinking about putting it aside for now until things get better, patience is getting short!
Got stuck at that point as well but I let it run while i was looking for a solution online and eventually after 40 minutes or so it continued the download and finished without any further issue.
FIXED MY LOADING SCREEN PROBLEM!
I had “Ž” in my user name (pc user name), and I changed it to “Z” and the game doesn’t get stuck on loading screen now! Try this if you guys have “forbidden” character in your name and the game doesn’t load.
