Installation Manager lies about download speed

I purchased MSFS on steam and have been running the installation with the Installation Manager for over 11h now, with just about 79GB already downloaded. According to the Installation Manager my download rate is at a stable 20Mb/s. If you quickly do the maths it quickly becomes clear that this is not the case and by now with this rate I should have downloaded beyond 700GB by this time. So my download rate is clearly at something like 2-3Mb/s, but the Manager says otherwise, why is Installation Manager lying to me?

The issue is it is not a single download. It downloads and installs as it goes. File 1 downloads and installs, then file 2 downloads and installs etc. Well it is on the install portion of a file it is not downloading, so there are lots of starts and stops in the process. Not the most efficient way to handle it for sure.

Is there a certain reason why they decided to go this way and will they change that in the future?

I am sure they have a reason for doing it this way, what that reason is I can only speculate.

My theory is it is so you do not download the entire thing only to find out that the entire 120+GB file is corrupt and has to be redownloaded.

To be fair Steam and most other game installers do the same thing, they just seem to be more efficient in how they handle the process.

Sad that they don´t distribute their files through steam, so that at least steam users have some faster download times.

That’s a good theory. The only problem is, it would probably still be faster to re-download that file after it was corrupted once or twice

For how long my download is running now i could have downloaded that single file 7 times or so already.
