Currently running about 10%/hour for a download rate, so it’s going to take a bit of time. But here are the specs for my new rig:
Thermaltake H570 TG Tower
X670 Aorus Elite AX motherboard
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
32GB DDR5 RAM
750 Watt PS
If you’re wondering what it cost, well, let’s just say I spent a chunk of change on it.
Congrats on the new system.
What made you go with a 3070 over a 3080/90?
The vRam on a 3070 is a touch low.
In simple terms, money and availability. There’s plenty of room to upgrade later.
I finally got everything installed and files migrated from my previous rig to the new one. After a (very) short flight from W88 to KGSO, I can say that I’m going to be very happy with this thing. Frames at 4K are a little better than the laptop could do at 1080, and there were zero stutters, even on short final where I normally get them. Reducing resolution to 1080 on this rig gets me anywhere from 50 to 70 frames, depending on screen content, but I’m loving the sharp visuals of 4K. Even with the not-so-frame-friendly Kodiak loaded up and the backup attitude indicator running, and with cloudy skies set to Ultra, I was still getting 30+ FPS on this flight. I may still play around with the DX11/12 stuff a little, but my original eclectic list of settings (some high, others low) is back in place.
Agreed! If he’s on 1080p he should be fine.12-16gb VRAM is the sweet spot for this sim @4K.
