Instant shutdown whenever video starts in FS2024

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: System performs an instant shutdown without warning when trying to run FS2024.

The point at which this occurs has varied, but it always happens. After 16 hours, I have yet to make it into a cockpit.

Having followed guidance to delete the game profile in steam after being unable to even get to the menu, it now occurs within a second of the first video playing after I click the button to connect to Xbox network.

Note - HWinfo data shows that this is NOT heat or voltage related - there are no spikes and hardware doesn’t even get close to limits. During the install, GPU ran at >90% capacity for hours without issues. Other titles can stress CPU/GPU without issue (Star Citizen, RDR2, Far Cry 6, Fallout 76, DCS World et al)

Strongly suspect this is Vulkan-related

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

THere are no mods or add-ons installed - I can’t even get to the menu

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every single time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Install from steam - faultless, no issues
  2. Start the Application, initially it crashed (shutdown, not CTD) at 2% before downloads became impossible due to poor servers
  3. After leaving several hours for download to restart, download completed, I was able to access menu (once) and setup peripherals (VKB STECS, VKB Gladiator NXT Evo, Tobii ET 5). Setup chose default “ultra” graphics profile
  4. Attempting to launch a flight, I was able to select departure and arrival locations, but attempting to start the flight resulted in a hang after partial zoom-in to departure location (>25 mins). Esc returned to menu
  5. After several attempts, downgraded graphics profile from “ultra” to “high”
  6. Every attempt since has resulted in a sudden shutdown without warning whenever the first video starts to play.
  7. Deleted Steam folder /userdata/user/2537590 as per recommendation
  8. Launch now begins at “setup Xbox Network”, clicking on yellow button leads to sudden shutdown as soon as first video plays

Update

-Reverted GPU game settings to default in Adrenalin
-Limited framerate to 60 (monitor 240Hz capable)
-On advice of GC provider, removed current video driver with AMD utility (safe mode) and reverted to 24.9.1, changed game settings to default in Adrenalin
-Repeated process and upgraded to beta 24.20.11.1 driver
-Dropped corecount to 30 in MSconfig (as per this steam thread - Workaround: CTD at 87% - Loading world - Multicore Problem AMD Threadripper - #47 by OnAnyMouse2758)
-Further dropped core count to 20
-Uninstalled game completely and reinstalled
-Physically cleaned inside PC, verified 2 different rails for power connectors (no significant dust buildup)
-Reverted to 24.10.1 driver, default settings

The only thing I have not done so far is reseat my RAM and/or remove one or more sticks. RAM slots are blocked by CPU heatsink, so this would required re-seat of the heatsink and I currently have no thermal compound for that.

About to run furmark and memtest86 to check for errors

No response on here, no response from bug report, no response from AMD - poor effort all round.

Referring requests for “support” to a foum and then giving no response typifies the dismissive attitude of developers these days towards their customers.

Disgraceful
