I bought msfs on March 5th. Had roughly a 4hr install time. After installing to a folder outside of C: , I read that it said to install into C: & create addons folder outside of C: . So I uninstalled and reinstalled (basically 2 installs & 2 uninstalls in 24hr period). My 2 questions :
I just got a heads up warning from my internet provider now saying I reached 75% of my data for month and the cycle ends on April 1st. I have 1.25Tb data plan . I went on internet app and it showed on March 5th & 6th (day of installs and uninstalls ) I hit 183GB both those days & my average per day is about 48-60. Those 2 days of install/uninstall totaled more than 360Gb . Anyone else seeing 125-150Gb just for install day ?
I had a windows 10 OS failure couple days ago had to reinstall windows . Before i install getting mixed info , what’s the best location to install MSFS?
-I had C: (500Gb) Windows10/MSFS install
-F: (4Tb) MSFS addons folder (community )
Is it best to put MSFS initial install into C: drive where windows is located , or put it on the F: 4Tb drive than when asked where to install addons , create another folder into F: 4Tb ?
I’m only asking because I suffered a windows 10 os failure and don’t know if it was caused by MSFS . I’ve never had a OS failure , owned operated P3D for 4 years and very weird I get the OS failure roughly 2 weeks after MSFS is installed into C:
Anyone have advice would be great before i install
I don’t really understand your topic title regarding what you then put up as an issue in your post. I can only guess that you generally feel “unsecure” using your computer and taking care for your internet plan.
MSFS currently takes about 136 GB on my drive, so any value near that amount is a realistic size for redownloading MSFS with all updates. If you also purchased addons, the size will increase further.
When your C drive (containing your OS) has only 500 GB, you might want to put all your big applications elsewhere, so your windows installations always has space left “to breathe”. Yet if you still install on C, there shouldn’t be any problem either, since installing applications is what a drive is good for.
It doesn’t matter where you install MSFS, the initial suggestion to install it on your C drive is common for all kinds of installations from various manufacturers.
It doesn’t really matter for MSFS wether you put addons in some separate folder or even on a separate drive, as MSFS will just read out the resulting path to the folder of installed addons and access these addons from there.
If you don’t know if your OS failure was caused by MSFS, what brings up the idea there could be any connection between your OS failure and the installation of MSFS in the first place? Since there was a time gap of 2 weeks, how would one see a connection there? Let’s assume it was caused by the installation MSFS 2 weeks before, how should anybody see any chance to determine the exact problem after all went well for 2 weeks ?
Btw I couldn’t follow: why did you do 2 installs and uninstalls?
What exactly do you mean with “OS failure”?
And how does a data plan warning from your ISP have anything to do with MSFS besides that the download of the MSFS installation and even afterwards the download stream of scenery data does naturally consume data and therefore contributes to your data plan depletion?
When I installed first time , I accidentally setup addons to be in same drive (C:) where my MSFS install was located . Basically I got a 4Tb drive sitting there not being used . I had to uninstall and than reinstall and when asked again where do I want addons installed too …I than chose F: (4Tb drive).
Yea it’s a complicated post . I didn’t want to create 2 posts . The main topic was internet data . We as a family some days we hit 17gb daily usage (cuz we work and the kids are In school), some days we use 50-70gb (weekend if we are all on separate devices streaming or on MSFS). The day I purchased MSFS and was the same 24hr period of having to reinstall after initial install is where I saw my data usage . March 5th and 6th were 183-188Gb usage . I was asking if that’s normal ? When I did the first install it took about 6hrs to install. Than I uninstalled (already mentioned above why), did the 2nd install (which ran into the next morning of 24hr period )…hence why I have 2 days showing 183-188gb usage for those days on my internet app data usage . I’m not complaining , I’m just asking if that’s normal . My data plan PER MONTH is 1.25tb. Yesterday I got alert as I was 75% usage for month and have 7 mor days in my cycle . I had to add additional 500gb for JUST THIS remaining bill cycle as we will go over in 7 days . We are currently at 85% now with 6 more days . So again, I saw what was the culprit for my data usage situation this month , it shows March 5th and 6th are the culprit …the back to back days of the install . Is this normal or what people are seeing …roughly 150gb data usage JUST to install ? That was my main question for the topic. The first paragraph was my 2nd question in same topic about where to install it too. Some were installing everything into one drive , some install all into separate drive outside windows location, some installing MSFS into C: & than installing addons folder onto separate drive .
Thank u for the feedback on the location stating “it doesn’t matter where u install it too “
Sounds like I will put MSFS Initial install into C: windows …and than put my addons onto F: (4Tb drive ) .
