Hello,
I am looking to give my flying some purpose, and APL2 seems to provide that.
However, by casual I generally mean I don’t have time for a lot of flights, maybe 1-2 a week. I am worried by this ‘schedule’ I’ve been reading about. How strict is it? For example it would be a pity if it takes me weeks to fly to a payware airport I bought, I bought it to be flown into!
Anyone here enjoying it? Or anyone who found it too restrictive and quit?
schedule can be a minimum 5 per week, 10 per week or “care free” which means you just need at least one flight every 3 months before you’re removed from the airline that “hires” you.
You can also buy “tickets” to fly any leg but it’s only for XP. You might be better off with “A Random Flight Generator” which is made by the same people (and it’s free)
I love APL. Get to fly to new and exciting places i never would have otherwise flown to on my own volition
The schedule is quite flexible, while you can’t choose the airports specifically, you can look at what aircraft types fly routes to a particular airport and just select those aircraft types and keep regenerating the schedule until you get a schedule you’re happy with.
When you start out you have to choose an airline, but you won’t be able to start with a big airline until you reach a higher rank. So, you’ll likely be starting off with a budget airline - I think I started out with Wizz Air, for example. Also, you only have limited funds to start with, so you may be able to only afford one or maybe two aircraft licenses.
I only fly 2-3 flights per week, so that’s fine. If you go ‘care free’ you only get fired from an airline if you don’t fly for three months.
It’s exactly how I use it. No commitment to fiy and I just use it when I fancy a non GA flight. Have “worked” for DHL in the A300. I’m now with Ameristar in the RJ 1000.
Ahh. I did get fired once. Now I know why!
Reviving an old thread intead of starting a new one…
Does anybody know why the route database for British Airways in APLV2 doesn’t include any flights within the UK? Seems a little odd…
Airlines in APL2 are split by their ICAO codes; because BA is running their domestic flights under the "Shuttle” legacy line, which has a different code of ■■■, it’s listed as a separate airline
lmao the censor on the code sierra hotel tango
They’re separated out into a different airline - British Airways Shuttle, I think they did it like this because they use a different callsign compared to international flights. They did something similar for the US regionals too.
Thanks @Nahcep4338 and @PCMRTumnus - Appreciate the response.
Not sure what is more confusing, why the forum software doesn’t like the letters S-H-T or that the one airline is split
The split isn’t that uncommon, it’s just in the case of BA it’s a clean and easily visible split
See Ryanair and their five separate units: RYR/Ryanair proper, RUK/Bluemax (Ryanair UK), MAY/Blue Med (Malta Air), LDA/Beaufort (Lauda Europe, Ryanair’s Airbus fleet) and RYS/Magic Sun (Buzz formerly Ryanair Sun, their Central Europe unit)
So as a casual user after two years I finally finished my first contract. I signed on with a new airline. Do I need to use flight tickets to get myself to the airport for my new carrier? I’m in Canada and signed on with a carrier in China so a long way to go and I do not have a lot of money, but unsure how this works in APL.
Nope, you teleport there - I’ve just swapped from Thai Int to TAP Portugal and I could pick up from Lisbon instantly
Same for if you finish your schedule in a different place than your next one has you start in
Flight tickets are really only if you want to go superhardcore roleplay with APL. Otherwise they’re totally unnecessary.
Thanks for letting me know. Glad to know I can just start my flight.
