Is anyone else really dissapointed?

Not in flammatory at all I’m upset that I paid extra for nothing, and I got ripped off as they refuse to refund me. We shouldn’t need EXTRA to fix what we were told was included…come-on Washington missing world famous landmarks,no light atop of the Luxor ,the problem with photo real scenery is it’s flat buildings Don’t shine in the sun or reflect this they look muddy dull…be happy with it but I am not and I wanted my money back.in my opinion it’s not what was promised…

I get over 60 FPS, maybe you need to upgrade from a potato :joy:

about 50fps for me and my rig.

I run at Ultra presets with my EVGA 1080 FTW, but I’m sure my 9900K helps with that.

same big ol’ beast working in my one. did help to upgrade from my good ol’ 3990k, hahaha.

Reading through a lot of the threads and comments has been really interesting. It seems like the flight simulator community has been abused for the last decade. The developer abandoned FSX before they fixed everything. X-Plane has been somewhat haphazard. Now, the bar for the developer has been set so low that many in the community will actually defend the release of broken, partially complete products.

To paraphrase: Oh, don’t worry, third-party developers will make all sorts of great planes, scenery, weather, water, flight-models, etc.

That is the thing - they (third-party) shouldn’t have to fill in any gaps. While community development is awesome, that sort of defense of the prime developer wouldn’t happen, and wouldn’t work, with most AAA game titles. It is supposed to be a polished, fully-playable product when it is released. While bugs in software happen, they generally don’t on this scale for production products. Try to think of another consumer item where many of you would be willing to give this sort of deference to the manufacturer for faults in the product or service.

I completely agree with those in this thread that are “disappointed.” They likely paid way too much money for a product that isn’t ready for prime time. The morally correct thing for the developer to do would be prorated refunds for everyone based on the release of an alpha or “early access” product. They can charge more when it becomes worth more.

i once bought some kind of expensive car two years ago - had to spend two whole weeks with it and the dealer after it got to me to get the “shoot” fixed. there still a couple of things left but i can live with that. it’s everydays “shoot” but don’t exepect my dealer to give me $ 5k back for the hassle.

even they did mention “nothing but the best” or so in their trailers… well, i beg you…

and don’t let me go ahead and tell you what’s it’s like to build a housing for yourself.

do i like it - no. can i change things? no.

“can i change things? no.”

Oh come on, don’t take this attitude. While changing things can be difficult, you, and people in general should have the optimism that you can change things.

From lack of benefits, “crunch” where large amounts of what would be overtime is not compensated, to harassment and gender discrimination in the workplace. There are multiple documentaries now on how toxic video game development has become. Meeting the timeline has become more important than releasing a good product, and in the background those that make it happen may be treated poorly by their employer.

You can always change things, even if just in a small way. You can advocate in forums like this one, write reviews, you can send e-mail and mail to express your views to the company, and you can vote with your wallet.

kinda philosophical but being in this dev business for two decades now, being self employed and having a bit more than half of my life behind me i just do think, i won’t change a lot of things in a meaningful way, haha - forums, twitter and such won’t do a lot.

you may disagree which is fine but let’s get back to the topic, uh?

ps: but keep your spirit, will you !

It’s a bit like Asobo has real skills in designing beautiful houses, but they are not architects. They promised me the best house of the world, and boys, sure this house is beautiful !!

But the kitchen is broken, the bathroom unusable, … everything else is beautiful, but not as good as advertised.

And now people are telling me “don’t be a whiner, there will be specialists who will repair your kitchen, build a fancy bathroom, etc…” Of course, if you pay them on top of what you already paid for the complete house…

And that’s the problem ! I understand every room in the house can’t be the best of the world. But I still want to be able to use it without having to pay someone else to do the job. I will pay them if I want a better kitchen, sure, but not just to be able to use my kitchen !

So please, Asobo, fix the live weather to work as advertised, fix the modern flight model so I can’t taxi the XCub tail up at 10kts without using the brakes, so I can’t put the DV20 on its tail without even rolling, so fuel flow are not over the charts, etc…

I want to pay specialists to upgrade my house, not to fix it…

Well said! I played FS9 for years and (from day 1) flew IFR. Things got better with patches, and I spent some money on addons but it delivered what it promised- VFR and IFR functions. Nobody is expecting a Boeing level professional flight simulator… but if you advertise a “successor” to FS9 and FSX, at least get the basics right.

I can say I’m a bit disappointed although very hopeful.
Good

  • visuals are great even though very taxing on CPU/GPU
  • great use of satellite imagery and photogrammetry
  • you have to buy the full deluxe premium (or whatever it is called) to get a decent selection of aircraft
  • mod community already jumping in
  • Saitek panels require 3rd party software - really??? How did Logitech / MS miss this key need?

Bad

  • performance inconsistent
  • flight setup isn’t nearly as intuitive as XP11 or others (landing practice, ILS, frequency, airport info, etc.)
  • Flight model seems decent
  • doesn’t feel polished, more like a decent beta or pre-alpha release. Not a triple AAA polish yet

I’m hopeful it will rapidly improve. There’s too many of us that have invested in it already not to give it a chance. I think MS will come through, although they really should have given another 30 days of polish and testing before the full release in my opinion.

I posted this elsewhere, but it seems more appropriate in this thread:

IMO, Microsoft initially intended MSFS2020 as an XBOX game for the masses. This to me is indicated by the lack of multi-monitor support, poor peripheral support, general simplification of the aircraft systems and aerodynamics, PC installation issues, and focus on impressive graphics and network gaming functions over smooth PC installation, and poor aerodynamic, performance, and systems authenticity. I can’t blame Microsoft for this. It brings aviation to a much bigger market than just the P3D/XP/etc simmers of the world. I’m glad they made the decision to port it to the PC, though!

Having said that, MSFS2020 has huge potential to become a great product, both to the arcade gamers, and to the hard-core flight simmers. Perhaps it was released a bit early, but there are plenty of satisfied customers.

$500 lol… ok calm down. I’m sure Asobo will take you out to dinner if you just ask nicely.

What are your settings? I find it hard to believe you’re getting that much. In fact I don’t really believe it.

KTPA old sim

For the first few times up learning how to make this work I’m starting now to really get jazzed about it. I’ve been simming since the very first sims arrived decades ago. Even though it’s got bunch of things that need addressed what was released was truly spectacular, especially as a first release. I initially felt like I would be back into P3D quickly–then I got on to what it’s like to be flying thru reality as it were–for the state of hardware today, this sim is as real as it gets, and it’s just getting started I feel. The graphics engine is, even w/o DX12, so far ahead of the competition it’s astounding. Of course, the depth isn’t there yet, but the writing is on the wall: this sim has a serious future–much more so than prior releases IMO, and that is in the context of the other dominant sims. I’ve restricted use to the TBM930 and it’s certain sufficient for FSCaptain when they get that fabulous program up and running in MSFS, and they are working on it for sure, for obvious reasons. Some real magic happened tonight when I decided to turn the 9900K from 5.0Ghz non-HT, to 4.8Ghz w/ HT enabled. I hope what I saw was true, and it dang well ought to be since I flew out of Tacoma Narrows and that is a busy spot. Not a single ramp up of the CPU to 100% which happened somewhat regularly w/ HT off. Anyway, I’ve had a hard time going back to P3D though I know I will I have some much time w/ it and love the PMDG and Majestic planes. But right now I’m stoked to learn something underestimated: it’s very meaningful flying thru the largely photoreal deal, not an artist’s rendition of the real deal. This adds far more to the experience than I imagined–I though it would be a novelty but I think it’s more than that now.

In a flight VFR Gibraltar-Malaga (Spain) at 4000 feet by the Mediterranean coast the scenery was disappointing: the houses were like cubes, very unrealistics.

Overall I am quite impressed with FS 2020, but I am disappointed that having paid for the premium deluxe version the rendering of a lot of places is very poor … and disappointing … being from East Yorkshire I expected to take off from Humberside … fly north and see the Humber Bridge … no Humber Bridge … certainly not a suspension bridge … and one of the most iconic cable stay bridges in the world … the Millau Viaduct … rubbish … are we going to get DLC over time that upgrades them … I also read elsewhere that the “game” is totally US friendly … just Portsmouth and Southampton phtogrammetrically rendered in the UK … and Buckingham Palace is a concrete office building … we need updates !!! For our money|!!!

Fixing the world is an impossible task. It appears Asobo realise that. What they need to do (and have hinted at) is to create an x-plane gateway style community project where simmers can submit scenery fixes for including in the core sim. There are hundreds of scenery fixed already available on community websites.
