Is GSX Pro simple to use for someone who finds computers daunting?

Hi All,

As above, really — it’s currently 40% off but I find the idea of checking for GSX [profiles and editing them a bit daunting — its it essentially ‘plug-and-play’ or is there a certain amount of setting up involved?

How does the VDGS work, and does it basically replace Aerosoft’s and Nool’s? Can the follow me car be requested at any airport, and how functional is it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You don’t need to edit profiles, you can download ready to go profiles from flightsim.to and many DLC airport already include a profile (if you buy outside the MS marketplace).
It is not hard to use, maybe a bit getting used to. But it adds a lot to the ambience and immersion.

Thanks. So it’s effectively useless for airports purchased at the Marketplace?

I think it still works but the profiles won’t work because the marketplace airports are encrypted. But that does not make too much of a difference.

GSX works perfectly fine with airports bought on the Marketplace, since SU10 when the Navdata API was introduced, so it now doesn’t need to read any scenery files directly.

The only thing you must be aware of, if the scenery is coming from the Marketplace, it’s your responsibility to be sure you install the correct profile for that scenery, because GSX no longer associate it to a particular .BGL file, it just loads the profile by ICAO.

Other than that, there aren’t any differences or limitations with Marketplace airports.

Its pretty simple to use, you click the GSX icon on the toolbar to bring it up, and select what you want to do. As far as installing for 24, make sure to use your community folder for 24 to install it with FSDT installer. Once I did that using the steam version it showed up in game just fine after the recent update.

Upon installation, I get two desktop icons (FSDT Installer and FSDT Live Update) that appear to do the same thing. I take it I do need both? I also get a shortcut to some sort of couatl file but when double-clicked it does absolutely nothing. Can I bin this one?

Please don’t touch anything, don’t remove anything, you are not supposed to start the couatl engine manually, it’s started and restarted by another program that handles that and starts with the simulator.

There aren’t two installers, there’s only one installer/updater, which comes with two different interfaces, depending by which icon is started from.

  • The FSDT Live Update icon will just update ALL FSDT products automatically, it doesn’t do anything else, and it will automatically quit when it’s done. And yes, this is done intentionally, following users suggestions that wanted something they could start as part of an automatic batch startup, so they asked to remove any confirmation dialogs that would disrupt the batch flow.

  • The FSDT Installer icon will start exactly the same .exe but, when started from this icon, it will show the full interface, where you can do many other things in addition to “just” update. You can read release notes, you can open the manual, unlink/relink products, install new products, deactivate or activate licenses, retrieve your keys, etc…

In the full Installer interface, you decide what to update and when, while the Live Update interface just updates all products automatically.

Basically, starting with the Live Update reduced interface, is functionally identical to having clicked the Update ALL button in the Installer interface. That’s all what the Live Update does.

Thanks. Can I at least move the couatl file somewhere less intrusive? Or should I just leave it where it is, on the desktop?

You can delete the desktop icon and access it via Windows app menu when needed…
