Is it even possible to get bush trip achievements on Xbox Series X?

I’ve completed the Patagonia Bush Trip 3 times, the last time around I completed it sequentially without exiting the game (just kept hitting “continue” at landing. I never landed in the “vicinity” it was airport to airport.

Interestingly, in the logbook, it only shows the last leg. I’ve deleted my user data and started over–exiting to main menu after every successful landing. If I crash, I’ll start from the beginning (which is tricky on the 3rd and 4th short, grass runways).

Am I completely wasting my time? I’ve been going through the achievements one by one, honing my skills. I even got the “My Way” achievement, which is apparently a finicky one. I’m completely stuck on “Fire and Ice.”

Thanks for any input / advice!

If you click “Get me back on track” at any point it will invalidate the entire Bush Trip’s eligibility to get an Achievement. Not saying you did that but it’s one possible cause.

I completed all three of the “original” bush trips and got the Achievements for each no problem, but the logbook only registered two so I had to refly them all again to find out which one didn’t register in order to get “Completionist.”

Achievements are a nightmare in this sim. I’ve been playing since day 1 on Xbox and it’s taken all that time to get as far as I can progress and I’m still not done. The last Achievement “Decathlon” is literally impossible to attain on Xbox alone because not only are the “weekly events” not weekly, the last two (one for each of the last SUs haven’t been detected on Xbox). I’ve been stuck at 30% completion for about a year. Hard to get 10 weekly challenges done when Xbox hasn’t had that many. No one seems to care. Call me crazy but achievements should be achievable and Asobo should fix the issues.

Feel free to PM me if you’re stuck on any others and I’ll help as much as I can.

I managed to get that achievement on Series X, however I cannot did not get Anemoi after completing the Balkans bush trip.

In both cases, I didn’t use any navigational assistance per the requirement for the achievement.

As @Broseph4245 says, the achievements in the sim are a mess and it’s been an achievement in of itself to get many of the achievements I’ve gotten.

Re-flying many of the activities has caused the sim to suddenly recognize my efforts. Fortunately, I like flying!

Thanks to you and @Broseph4245 for the replies! I feel much better already knowing I’m not alone, in what seems to be somewhat of a pointless struggle… :slightly_smiling_face: So to confirm, I have not touched “back on track,” although I do find it strange that the VFR map shows lines to waypoint–kind of defeats the purpose of navigating with landmarks / stopwatch, right? Whatever, I usually minimize both windows before takeoff.

Here’s a few nit-picky questions for you, because it seems like the devil is definitely in the details on achievements: Do you exit to main menu after each leg (or do you continue, THEN exit, then continue again)? Does the log need to show every individual leg taking off from one airport and landing at the next (e.g., landing in any vicinity invalidates the achievement and requires starting over from the first leg)? If I lose connection for a few moments at any point in the bush trip, is it toast?

To your point @NixonRedgrave - I had to do the My Way achievement multiple times before I got it. Truth be told, I have no idea what I did right in the end. It just showed up. The wisdom here is certainly not to let it bother you too much. Honestly flying these over and over I’m just getting better at the whole thing and learning new techniques. Although that slot machine vibe when it pops up is undeniable .

I’ve got 5 legs left on my latest attempt: trying it by exiting to main menu after each landing… so far so good. Thanks again for the words of wisdom to you both.

For Fire and Ice & Anemoi, I definitely quit to the Main Menu after every leg. I recalled reading about issues with Bush Trip progress in earlier SUs (which kept me from even bothering to try them at all), so I took the safe route with the quitting.

It’s funny you mention the VFR map — I wrote up a comment during the beta regarding the inclusion of the entire Balkins Bush Trip on the Garmin G1000 NXi-equipped 172 that you fly it with. What is point of having to fly the trip with no navigational assistance, when you have the entire trip pre-programmed into the Garmin?! So dumb!

I might add, that I also wrote up a bug during the beta where the Garmin stopped updating the flight plan after the second leg of the trip. I’ve wondered if that has anything to do with my inability to get credit for the achievement even though the progress within the activity itself and my logbook show each leg completed.

Also, I started and completed Fire and Ice with SU9 and started the Balkans during SU9 and flew legs of it during the SU10 beta and completed it after SU10 final, so who knows if all of those version changes whacked it for me. I’ll just have to re-fly it and see.

Nope! I would fly multiple legs in succession without returning to the menu. As soon as the little airplane graphic pops up and gives you your flight stats, I’d hit okay and take off again from where I was. No need to go back to the main menu in my experience which is nice.

There were times I briefly lost connection for a moment or two: no negative impact on Achievements.

An interesting fact I haven’t seen posted anywhere: “Get me back on track” only affects the Achievement for completing that particular bush trip. If you need to refly the bush trips because the logbook didn’t detect it properly like what happened when I was trying to get “Completionist”, you CAN use “Get me back on track” and it will still count.

Another important “Completionist” fact: as you complete your bush trips, check to see if the “Bush Trip Count” in your pilot profile increased by one. Don’t be like me and fly all three and then see “2/3 Bush Trips completed” and not know which multi-hour journey you need to do again for a 33% chance of selecting the right one. This also applies to your landing challenges! The thumbnail for the landing challenge will say your grade (A,B,C) BUT it might not have logged in your profile. If the count doesn’t increase, complete the landing again. This will avoid your needing to redo all the landing challenges to find the imposter that didn’t register in your pilot profile. Yes I had to do this. The landing challenges are fun but not when you’re stressing about wether or not the sim will decide to detect your landings.

Journeyman (500 hours) and Wing Commander (1000 hours) are both buggy. I have 1200 hours flight time and only just got Wing Commander. The progress bar didn’t update for several weeks and suddenly started working again for no apparent reason.

Service with a Smile: This was my first frustration and when I first realized getting all Achievements would be tough. I completed every single possible ground service multiple times in multiple instances with different planes at different airports. On the tarmac, at terminals, at gas pumps, you name it, I tried it. To my surprise and disbelief, it randomly popped unexpectedly when I turned the AI pilot on at a random terminal.

World Traveler: Expect to complete closer to 600 landings than the requisite 500. Progress bar is finicky.

What other Achievements are you working on?

I’ve completed: Challenge Accepted, Fill 'Er Up, Rubberneck, Mother Nature, Start Me Up, By The Book, In the Wild, Service with a Smile, Back-Up Plan, Job Shadowing, Wheels Up Wheels Down, Look Ma No Hands, Light Chop, On the Green, Stay on Target, My Way, Deadstick Landing, In The Spotlight, Frequent Flyer Miles, Road Trip, A Few Bumps, Short Stuff, Uphill Climb, Tour Guide, Pilot Program, Greased, Flights Of Fancy, Century Club, and Sids and Stars.

The next in the list was “Fire and Ice,” so it seemed like the reasonable next endeavor. After a few times of the thing not popping up, I deleted my user data, then the reserved space, and reinstalled the game… twice. So I lost all of my other progress, but I don’t care because I’m so single-minded on this at the moment.

So what gives!? I just finished the whole thing, never touched the “back on track” button, assistance is set to hard. No achievement. Pretty frustrating. The only thing I did that was less than perfect was landing in the vicinity of the destination on 3rd to last leg. I did also just fly directly to each destination using AP instead of hitting all the waypoints (this time, I hit all the waypoints on a previous attempt).

Any ideas? Would the vicinity landing be enough to disqualify me? Everything is check marked, log shows every leg, bush trip menu shows as 100% completed. I’m at a loss.

Thanks y’all for any wisdom! It’s nice to know there are other people out there who are as dedicated to this stuff as I am. See screenshots below… it’s a real mystery, to me anyway.

Can you clarify what you mean by vicinity landing? You should be landing on the runway and getting a pop up confirming the leg is complete every time you land. Based on your 100% completion I’m guessing you are doing it correctly but just want to confirm you’re actually landing on the correct runway or strip. Also be 100% sure it’s the correct airport.

Using AP will not disqualify the Achievement: I sometimes used it on the longer legs with no issue. Straying from the suggested waypoints also should not disqualify the Achievement. I primarily used rivers and bodies of water + the VFR map so I was often way off the suggested route, again without issues so I’d rule that out as being the cause.

It’s a long shot but I would fly just the final leg again to see if it will get the cheevo to pop. I’ve seen multiple posts where folks have tried this and been successful in getting the sim to finally recognize the landing in terms of the achievement trigger.

Nice job on all the Achievements so far! Keep trying. The sim is incredibly stubborn but repetition/multiple completions seem to be the only tool we have to get them to pop.

Sorry i can’t be if more help - you seem to be doing everything correctly. I know it’s not comfort but I genuinely feel your pain.

If all else fails, try the Nevada and/or Balkans trip for a change of scenery. Try again once SU11 is out and pray someone updated the code. Put in a Zendesk request. Start a post on the bugs forum to get mod/dev attention in the hopes they find a way to make cheevos to work.

I just did the whole trip again and landed all 14 legs at the correct destination with no “vicinity” designations. What caused it first time around was coming to a stop 5 feet off the runway.

I will try this now. Should I just choose the final leg and click “RESTART FROM” ?

@Broseph4245 Thanks for the help and encouragement! I am grateful. I also feel a significant sense of accomplishment flying the thing beginning to end with no mishaps. I suppose that’s good enough for me, for now. Maybe re-flying that final leg once or twice will do it (at this point, I have my doubts). Let me know how I should go about that. Many thanks!

Yes. I recommend trying it at least once. No guarantees but again, some others have reported success.

When you get caught up on Achievements you can come suffer with the rest of us waiting on Decathlon’s nightmarish “wEeKlY AcTiViTieS” that come out three times a year and haven’t registered once on Xbox in 2022. In a dev QA, they admitted they don’t test the sim on Xbox.

Whoever came up with “Decathlon” should be fired and has no business designing games for a flagship franchise as prestigious and important as MSFS.

Welcome to Achievement hell:

HAHA… well it is “SpOoKy SeAsoN”

I just wrote an entire bug report, screenshots and all… but… it won’t let me post it. What is going on here? I’m “not allowed to view the requested resource”… or something or other. I’ve angered the MSFS Gods. What did I do? :exploding_head:

…Seriously though, why won’t it let me submit a bug report?

A real conundrum I tell you, what if I was trying to submit a bug report about not being able to submit a bug report?

I just get this when I click “create topic”:

Strange. I’d ask a mod for clarification.

Lol… Every time I start the game, my activities reset to 0% so I’ve now stopped wasting time on them and I stead just fly around on the world map :grinning::sweat_smile:

Flying around the map is the true joy, for sure. Hey @Broseph4245 @NixonRedgrave and @SpeedDemon996 , I just submitted a bug report for this, I’d much appreciate a “vote” as it’s my first time trying to help

Here is the link: Not Receiving Fire and Ice Achievement on Xbox Series X

I voted too.

I’m having the same problems with the bush flight achievements. Wondering if automatic refueling has something to do with it? Seen a few people said you have to bind refuel to a key, which I have but I cant figure out how to make refueling manual, it happens automatically at the end of each leg.

I completed the patagonia bush trip again just now using only the in cockpit gps and sometimes the navlog but most legs were completed with vfr and navlog turned off. Assistance options all set to hard for ‘true to life’ setting. It shows 100% complete in trips menu but 0%in achievements list.
Does any one have any tips for why this is happening? I do enjoy the flights but they take sooo long. I’m using the thrustmaster t.flight hotas 1 with rudder pedals, also use keyboard, mouse and controller all at same time on xbox series x. Mabey that causes some issue? Or is the Fie and Ice achievement just broken? Any help would be appreciated.

The achievements have been a near constant source of frustration since day 1. There are threads all over this forum addressing the issues.

Fixes are made and then broken again in subsequent sim updates.

The broken achievements are an achievement in of themselves.
