I remember from my youth, when MS would have a gigantic booth at OSH all the time. That was such a great experience as a kid, and was always a hit with the aviation community as a whole. My favorite was when FS2004 was released, and MS set up a full simulator of the Wright Flyer for users to try. Great times. Just curious if MS/ASOBO has a booth setup at OSH this year?
Would’ve been cool to partner up with EAA and perhaps offer a detailed rendition of OSH airport for MSFS users, paired with a MSFS sponsored community fly-in multiplayer event.
XP is at OSH this year. I just feel being there, is a great way to introduce kids, attending with their parents for perhaps the first time, to the World of flight simulation.
That would have been nice to have EAA scenery for this week. Maybe next year?
But with Enhanced Live Traffic you can see some of the action there as it happens. The built-in live traffic only shows liners it seems. ELT shows GA too. Yesterday there were planes overflying Whitman in formation and breaking to land. It’s pretty nuts to be able to see that in real time in the sim. ELT is at flightsim.to.
If anyone tries it, just know all you will see are Airbuses until you set the path to your community folder properly and especially at Oshkosh you will need to be editing the model matching file or else you will still see a lot of Airbuses. You can also set the default aircraft to a Cessna or Bonanza instead of the Airbus.
I think even if they didn’t model the whole airport, a detailed rendition of Pioneer Field (a small airport within the airport) would be great. Would make a great partnership project.
It’s a fantasy land if you like airplanes. Highly recommended.
And take some extra cash. The year/day I went they were giving rides on the Concorde and taking people into Canada to break the speed of sound. I think the price was $1000 for that ride but it’s been a while so might not be remembering that properly. I wanted to go so bad but was a student and had maybe $100 on me.
My first time, they had an Air Atlanta B747-100 parked on the ramp, as well as the Orbis DC-10. Sitting in the 747 cockpit was the highlight for me. I was maybe 10 years old.
Come to think of it, Orbis is bringing their MD-10 to the airshow this year, and MSFS is supposedly bringing the Orbis MD-10 to the simulator to observe. Would have been simply amazing to place one as an AI model at a detailed OSH.
