There are tonnes of simple issues in MSFS that have existed for years and they have told us that eventually they will be fixed, but now 2024 has released and is an absolute mess, obviously most of the development time will be spent trying to fix the new release.
Things like landing challenge leaderboards not working or measurement units being inaccurate should not be difficult to fix and have been acknowledged by the team but at this stage it feels like they have just moved on from 2020 and don’t intend on fixing the broken parts of 2020 at all any more. It didn’t even get a mention in the recent dev stream.
Are we now stuck with an older sim with lots of bugs which will never be fixed, and a newer sim with an order of magnitude more bugs which will likely take years to address? It sure seems like it to me!
Yeah I imagine they will use all of the issues (that they have created) in 2024 as an excuse to pause development on 2020. I really hope not though.
Btw I liked your comments in another thread in the past hour or so and was going to reply but it seems the mods have locked that thread without any reason given. Maybe we aren’t allowed to be too negative about the state of MSFS or they shut down the comments?
I definitely agree though that anyone that bought 2024 after being promised a working, full featured simulator (which was demonstrably not delivered) should get a refund and wait until the issues are resoved (if ever) to hold the publishers accountable for the mess they have created.
In the dev stream it was nice to see them apologise but to not offer a refund or give a solid explanation of how they will work their way through this mess is really disheartening. They are just hoping that giving people 4 free (probably low quality so people wouldnt have bought them anyway) addons will placate the user base…
I would have thought that’s normal when a product has been superseded. 2020 appears to be getting updated with carry-over content for some while, for those who prefer to wait while 2024 gets polished.
I’ve decided to go all in on 2024 now and have uninstalled 2020. It’s good that both paths are an option.
I find it surprising that they are going to do anything more at all with 2020. Any other developer would release a new version and the old one would be completely abandoned. But I guess this is Microsoft who continue to support old versions of windows for a certain amount of time after the new version is available
As MSFS2024 is massaged, there’s going to be no real reason to continue to run 2020. Dev’s will finalize last patches to addons, and with Asobo/MS focusing on 2024, I’d expect some backfill from 2024 into 2020, but mainly sim maintenance for the few that are going to gut it out in 2020 for the long term.
given the devs history when it comes to bugs, i wouldn’t hold my breath
they have a track record of dealing swiftly with game breaking bugs, but minor bugs mostly go ignored
my guess is that trend will go on unchanged as long as the underlying reasons for it also go unchanged
again,. if i had to guess, those reasons would be, its not commercially viable, and a large part of the userbase (most?) don’t care about some switch that doesnt work, they just fly something else
Heck, the problems didn’t get addressed when 2020 was the only simulator. About zero chance now.
For instance KDFW has had known reported issues for years, but still unfixed. KLEX, which is my home airport has a missing terminal in 2020. I checked it out on my son’s XBox and it’s still missing in 2024.
There are several bug-reported items from 2020 and a few more from 2021. Based on these open items, I doubt MSFS2020 will ever be fixed. I doubt these bugs are even being actively worked on by the developers.
I think users should be participate more in the bug-logging process. Users who report bugs should either continually follow up on the bug status or close their bug so that developers don’t spend time working on it.
I do think that 2024 will eventually be fixed at least as well as 2020 was, I truly believe that the dev’s hearts are pure (albeit sometimes a bit misguided)…
I just hope that I’m not wrong, and I also hope that it won’t take forever.
I mean, they’re not going to fix minor world stuff like this worldwide, in four years or in twenty.
The World Hub in MSFS 2024 is the long-run fix for this when eventually it can eventually include additional buildings in the feature set.
Unfortunately, I would expect 2020 to be purely in maintenance mode with World Updates and some ported content from 2024 thrown in over the next few years.
Which is why I have very little faith in 2024 being much of an improvement over 2020 when it comes to addressing “minor” issues. I’ll be riding out 2020 for the the foreseeable future.
The emphasis will be on FS2024 now although support has been promised for 2020, and I think that will indeed be forthcoming. I’m hopeful some improvements, for example aircraft system tweaks will filter back via the compatibility between the two sims that the developers have spoken about.
?? this post is about the 2020 version . And it was never was actually fixed . 4 years and many of the original bugs are still in the sim . Flash news , msfs2024 going to get same treatment . No need to fix the game as long as there is a newer version every 4 years … Microsoft msfs is now same as their windows os . A continuously updated service , with no intention to ever provide a finished product .
