Is my monitor on its way out

Hi all, im hoping you can see from the attached image that the lettering has become blurry and while flying, looking at the sky it looks blurry, perhaps pixelated? Its difficult to explain. When my mouse goes over the lettering, at times it’ll suddenly become clear?

Am i right in thinking the monitor is on its way out? 1080p had a it years!

Outline the steps you’ve used to troubleshoot.
Double check display resolution in Windows, latest graphics drivers (please list type of card too), what are your in-MSFS display settings, etc.

Does it do it when you use that monitor for anything else such as Browsing, streaming Netflix, etc… ?

Driver is 551.23 (latest). Card 4090

It actually happens on my email. All text is blurred until i scroll the mouse over and it clears

A few things for good measure,

  1. If you have another monitor, plug it in and ensure it doesn’t do the same
  2. re-install GPU Drivers
  3. factory reset the monitor (if it doesn’t do it on the other if able to try that)

Unless you have another monitor to test with, hard to say if GPU or Monitor.

Is the first shot a photo or a screenshot? Because if it’s a screenshot then your problem is Windows, not your monitor. The rest of your shot there (the taskbar etc) looks better, text looks unaffected to me.

Find the control panel for ‘Adjust ClearType Text’ and run through it to reset it. This looks to me very much like the type rendering has gone out of skew. Also check if you have any monitor scaling applied. Many applications are not properly high-DPI aware (to be fair, it’s a pain for Win32 apps, but frankly a lot of developers are being lazy by not fixing these problems).

If, as you mention, the text can clear up and then get worse again during use, that strongly suggests to me that you have either a display driver problem, or (worse, I’m afraid) a GPU issue. Monitors fed a digital signal just don’t tend to fail that way, though I can’t say categorically that it isn’t the problem, I just don’t think it is.

They’re all screenshots.

The one below ive taken just now, zoom into the sky and you may see what i see which are dots scattered everywhere.

That looks like a Windows Font problem. Have you made any changes there? Also, reset your NVIDIA or AMD control panels to defaults to eliminate that from the equation.

I dont recall making any changes. I’ll take a look nvidia control panel

If it’s a screenshot then it definitely isn’t your monitor, because the screenshot is taken directly from the VRAM. The display is not involved.

Try the other suggestions in the thread, but if none of that helps then I would strongly suspect it’s your GPU.

could it be a change in dpi issue ?

or windows deskop/screen scaling setting ?
suggest you reading this to scan various setting that may produce blurry effect

adit (add) :
sometime there is change made without our knowledge by activating unfamous bind combo like today I just learned abt pushing " WINDOWS + CTRL + SHIFT + B " reset restart your video driver setting (maybe it s worth trying this)

I also recommend giving a try with clean gpu driver uninstall using DDU to see if gpu setting issue or windows

Note: a monitor issue wont show up in a screen shot so it’s most likely not that

Could this be the same issue?

In the FS2020 Global Options, you have Global Rendering Quality set to “Custom”.
What do you have that is changed in the UserCfg.opt file?

I would set it to “Ultra” to see if it helps.

Whether or not the monitor is dying, it’s time to change it for at least a 2K/Ultrawide or 4K, considering that you have a 4090!

…or it’s a good excuse for VR (with the vain hope the problem doesn’t follow you there!)

Issues does follow me there with the vr. Image quality is nowhere near what i was hoping for. I get shimming, ghosting, flickering. I use the Pico4.
