Is streaming ALL the data the wrong way for the MSFS?

I don’t want to write here about qualitative deficiencies of the FS. The FS2020 also had teething problems, even if I would consider many bugs to be avoidable.

As far as streaming all the data is concerned, however, I consider this procedure to be fundamentally inappropriate for the FS.

Nothing against the fact that the possibility of that funktion exists in principle to support systems with low storage capacities. However, I think that this is not the case for the majority. Like many people here, I run flight simulation as a serious hobby and have invested in my system accordingly. Even if perhaps the majority can’t afford a 4090, a 2TB memory as NVMe, for example, costs around 150EUR. A 2TB HDD is even cheaper. An X-Box can also be expanded.
High-resolution textures, which now also provide good immersion in VR, lead to long loading times that cannot always be guaranteed in throughput and short latencies.

Why not support both?

The person who can’t do anything else streams and has to be satisfied with what the connection provides.
The other has the available storage space and wants to use it in order to have a speed advantage and thus enjoy the security that the data can be loaded latency-free in the memory.
It also protects us from bottlenecks such as public holidays, when everyone wants to fly and which we already knew from 2020. These peaks will always be a weak point and extensive streaming, which everyone still needs now, will not improve these situations.
What do you think?

I agree. I just don’t understand why Microsoft has decided to do this. Just by scanning the forums and seeing all the bug reports, I don’t think the game will truly be polished until maybe June or sooner. I don’t even think streaming will ever be truly smooth. What happens if the servers have to go down for whatever reason? You’re talking about locking out millions of users for an unknown period of time. Just look at how launch day went. How can Microsoft not expect millions of users wanting to connect/play the game at the same time? It took them ~3 days to smooth things out.

I think it is the good way to do it. You cannot let software grow to take 1TB (and counting) of disk space.

You can soon download what you want to download so i don’t see the problem with this. Everything apart from aircraft and world updates was already streamed in 2020. It didn’t change that much.

The best thing now is you don’t need to install everything but those things will still work because of streaming.

There’s nothing wrong with it if it helps people who don’t have the disk space to have almost the same experience as those who do - but it should absolutely be a choice.

An Xbox ships with .. what, a 1Tb drive? You can see why people won’t want to swamp it with one single game and be locked out of playing other games.

But for someone on a desktop PC with multiple Tb of dedicated storage for flight simulator + addons? Bring it on. What are you frightened of? Making my PC too heavy with all the scenery? lol.

Download and store it please. Update on the fly if needed.
