Is this weird effect just me or is everyone seeing it?

Hi,

In a nutshell, does everyone see this effect on certain objects (particularly glass) in hazy weather, or is it some setting (likely in Nvidia CP) that I need to change? It rather kills the look/immersion a bit?

Cheers

Sorry I don’t know what I am looking for?

Look at all the glass in the buildings rendered in both images, particularly the top one. It should not look like that.

If you look at the cockpit windows on the BA aircraft that is how all of the glass should be rendered. For some reason on a lot of scenery it isn’t like that.

This is a graphical glitch I’ve seen in other games too, but ones running on much older engines. In that case it may well be that it’s a bug.

Yep i have the same thing on some airports with bad weather all the glass becomes nearly black.

Does anyone have knowledge as to what is going on here?

Is it a setting or a bug? If the latter, is it an issue with the game itself or the 3rd party scenery?

What happens if you change the weather to clear skies, and remove that haze? I’ll bet it changes the way the glass looks.

Indeed it does. It only seems to be an issue in cloudy/hazy weather.

In the UK that is a lot of the weather though!

I asked as, and I’m by no means an expert on this, it seemed like a Z-Buffer issue involving cloud/fog implementation. Take the fog away, and the glass renders correctly. You might notice a similar effect if you vary the cameras distance from them.

You’re totally right, I’m sure. I figured it would be something like that, but then the question is can it be rectified and if so, who by?

Probably Asobo I think.

an old issue. Less of it with good creators.

Thing is, those are two of the best, Pyreegue and Maccosim. I’ve seen the same with Pilot Plus too amongst others.

I might approach them first and get their take on it.

I have seen glass like that in real life depending on light conditions and type of glass I am surprised Asobo managed to make it real.

Its a sim limitation, the black windows sticking out like a sore thumb in hazy conditions when they should be as hard to see as any other building material. It is something that Filbert has been complaining about in his reviews for some time. Asobo need to fix it is the short answer but its a “cosmetic issue” in other words low on their list of priorities.

This is an issue that has been around in FSX and P3d for years. Very disappointed to see it emerge in MSFS. It is a massive immersion killer. Particularly on finals in IMC. One would have thought that this issue would not have made it’s way into MSFS.

I agree. I don’t recall it being an issue when the game was first released, but maybe I’m looking back with rose tinted glasses.

It does happen to everyone, a well known and annoying bug, it has always been there since launch
