As I‘m building a new w11 PC i bought and installed a 2nd MSFS2020 version on the new rig just recently. Today, when starting up my other/1st copy of MSFS2020 (Delux store version installed years ago on a W10 PC) I was asked to for an update, didn‘t really give a closer look, and - when clicking update - found myself in a complete new update of the basic sim running for hours. Once started I also found that all World- and City Updates for the sim (I regularly pusued) where completely gone - AND - that there was not enough space to install them again. It‘s worth noting, that I the sim had been installed on a separate drive independent of the C:\ drive

My guess is that because you “didn‘t really give a closer look”, the installer has simply added a new and virgin version of MSFS 2020 in the default C drive location. This explains why all your world updates appear to have gone and why you have a report of inadequate disk space.
I would also expect that you will find your original installation intact and exactly where you left it.
I doubt that the zendesk will give you an answer but if they did, I would expect it to be the same as this one.
Hey, thank you for your instant response & your contribution is highly appreciated. So if I get you right, this would mean, that I simply have to start the original version of the sim from its original location - that would be great an I‘ll give it a try (Still though, I’m wondering how this could happen given that easy as I started the sim by clicking on its desktop-link as usual). Keep you posted! … may take a few days though as I‘m busy jobwise.
