IT problems 19th July

Does anyone know if the world wide MS security problem is affecting msfs
And is it even safe to turn my PC on?!!

Richard

Haha I’m also too scared to turn my PC on.

If something went wrong. I would have no idea how to fix it at all.

I took one for the team and turned my PC on and also ran flight sim (well I need my PC for work so no choice anyway).

Both are working absolutely fine.

So when the whole world is ok= flight sim issues.

When the whole world & Microsodft crashes= flight sim perfect.

This is how we roll, ok?

We are not currently tracking any issues our outages with the Microsoft Flight Simulator servers. We are keeping a close watch and will provide updates as we are able to do so if any issues to arise…but right now get in the virtual cockpit and go flying! :sunglasses:

An update of Falcon Sensor, an internet security product from company CrowdStrike seems to be the cause.

No issues or outages other than the fact that the servers were down for hours…

This was a wider outage with Xbox Services and not solely Microsoft Flight Simulator, which was resolved 8 hours ago as per their social media posts: x.com

There is currently a widespread Azure outage, related to the Crowdstrike Falcon agent update, which affects virtual machines.

All of the IT + Flight Simmers are going to have a LONG day today. Anyone want to compare notes LOL?? I’m watching almosy 700 assets still reporting down.

Personal Comments and Observations

There were two major outages last night 18-JUL carrying over into this morning that are MS related: Azure and Office 365.

Press reports filtering in this morning indicate the Azure related issue is NOT related the Crowdstrike misconfiguration that got pushed out to all that Cybersecurity companies’ clients - including MS. The O365 outage is apparently related to Crowdstrike however.

I believe Staff have restored the Online Services Status dashboard to full green. If you’re seeing issues logging into your PC, not the sim, that’s an entirely different story unrelated to last night’s outages - unless of course you’re running Crowdstrike on your end-point, in which case Good Luck!

New York Times is reporting a possible link between the 2 outages:

On Thursday, some Microsoft clients in the central United States, including some airlines, were affected by an outage on its cloud service system, Azure… Separately, on Friday many Windows devices experienced problems involving CrowdStrike…

…It is not clear whether the initial Microsoft Azure outage was coincidental or linked to the crashes caused by the CrowdStrike update, but security experts said it was possible. Most likely, if the two are related, it would be because CrowdStrike’s update affected computers responsible for running Azure, triggering its shutdown.

Most my company’s workforce is remote and a great majority, especially those of us in the US, use Windows 365 virtual machines established and provisioned by our company IT. Not today, lol.
